Examining The Perceptions Of School Teams Participating In Professional Development On Restorative Practice, Clinton A. Bell Dec 2019

Examining The Perceptions Of School Teams Participating In Professional Development On Restorative Practice, Clinton A. Bell

Education Doctoral

In recent years, restorative justice (RJ) has been used by the criminal justice system to provide an alternative to punishment and retribution in response to crime. Restorative justice’s response to crime requires all parties affected or involved in the crime to come together to repair the harm done to the victim. The parties involved or affected include victim, offender, family, and community. Many schools have considered restorative justice as alternative to suspension and a way to build school community. The purpose of this study was to explore the perceptions of school faculty participating in professional development on restorative practices (RP). …

A Critical Examination Of Employers Offering A Second Chance For Employment To Black Males With A Criminal Record, Jennifer Jones

Education Doctoral

Obtaining employment after serving time in prison is essential for successful reentry after incarceration. However, Black men experience the highest rate of unemployment in the United States, a trend that only intensifies after release from custody. While there is extensive research correlating the high rate of Black male recidivism with the negative influences of criminal acquaintances, community barriers, obstacles to education, and racial inequalities that prevent successful reentries, there is little literature surrounding the positive outcomes, for all parties, that arise from the decisions of hiring managers or directors who offer second chances of employment to Black men with a …

An Exploratory Study Of Nurse Practitioners As Holistic Care Providers, Cindy E. Stevens Aug 2019

An Exploratory Study Of Nurse Practitioners As Holistic Care Providers, Cindy E. Stevens

Education Doctoral

The rapid changes in the health care industry have created a significant increase in the number of nurse practitioners (NPs) as primary care providers. The significant increase in the need for NPs has challenged the providers of advanced nursing programs to meet educational needs and to keep abreast with the number of changes in the scope of practice. Examining Partnerships Between Suburban Principals And Superintendents, Casey M. Van Harssel Aug 2019

Examining Partnerships Between Suburban Principals And Superintendents, Casey M. Van Harssel

Education Doctoral

School districts, and their individual schools, are guided by the leadership of superintendent-principal pairs. While superintendents and principals have a working relationship, not all these working relationships can be described as a partnership. Little is known about how partnerships between superintendents and principals are developed, maintained, and repaired and how established partnerships impact organizational effectiveness. Specific to suburban districts, the recent increased level of accountability for student achievement, under the Every Student Succeeds Act, is amplified due to the decrease in threshold numbers for accountability subgroups. The purpose of the study was to examine principal-superintendent partnerships in suburban districts using …

Education Doctoral

The purpose of the study was to examine decision-making factors among school superintendents related to the impact the New York State tax levy cap is having on public school budgeting. Now, 7 years after the implementation of this tax levy cap legislation, school districts have not become insolvent. This qualitative study used personal interviews of a …
