This collection contains materials related to Maurice Harmon’s work during his time at Marshall University and slightly after. The bulk of the collection consists of works in progress by Harmon and others at Marshall. The works in progress included in this collection are “Sean O'Faolain”, Constable (London, England), 1994 and “Preserving the Word: Descriptive Catalogue of Maurice Harmon’s Library of Anglo-Irish Literature and Criticism” compiled by Barbara R. This collection consists of two folders containing materials disparate in subject matter: one consisting of a list of many descendants of John Marshall compiled by Sam Clagg for Marshall University’s Sesqui-Centennial Committee in 1987, another of materials sent to Marshall University by one of these descendants. Papers consist primarily of diaries, newspaper clippings, correspondence, genealogies and photographs of five families: the Glanville-Carter families of St. Louis, Mo.; the Whittakers of Preble County, Ohio; Dorothy Whittaker Atkins of Huntington, West Virginia.; and the Heacocks of Bucks County, Penna.

A significant part of the collection are the diaries of Annie Heacock, a teacher at the Penn School for freed slaves in Beaufort, South Carolina, 1864-1869. Other diaries include the Civil War diary of John Whittaker, a surgeon in the 81st Ohio Volunteer Infantry.

Gang during 1951 regarding the proposed location of West Virginia’s first medical school. Lawrence B. Gang, a leading member of the Cabell County Medical Society, advocated for Huntington and his correspondence features reports and attached supporting his stance. Also included in the collection is a final report entitled, “Report by Okey L. This collection contains correspondence from L. J. Corbly and J. E. Plummer, president of Marshall College and the Marshall Business College respectively, to recruit the Osburns/Osbornes to attend Marshall. This collection includes Marshall College ephemera from 1904-1906, including advertising pamphlets, a 1905 copy of The Parthenon, general course information, and empty envelopes.

The accession record states that this collection included a cylindrical photograph of the Marshall College student body in May of 1930, however, this item was not found when the collection was processed.
