Exploring Public Speaking Self-Efficacy In The 4-H Presentation Program, Nicole Marshall-Wheeler, Yu Meng, Steven Worker Dec 2022

Exploring Public Speaking Self-Efficacy In The 4-H Presentation Program, Nicole Marshall-Wheeler, Yu Meng, Steven Worker

The Journal of Extension

Strong communication skills are important in an individual’s personal and professional life; however, research regarding what influences youth’s public speaking self-efficacy is limited. To address this gap, we surveyed youth who participated in a statewide presentation event about their self-efficacy and sources of that self-efficacy. Results show mastery experiences have the greatest relationship to youth’s public speaking confidence. Extension can strengthen youth’s public speaking self-efficacy by increasing the number of presentation opportunities and by removing barriers from participating in existing presentation opportunities.

Changing The Habitat At Academic Conferences: Using A Learning Ecosystem With Active Learning During A Panel Presentation, Gail Morton, Lee Olson, Stephanie Miranda, Adam Griggs, Kristen Bailey, Christian Pham, Kathryn Wright

Georgia Library Quarterly

Abstract

In order to assess the effectiveness and feasibility of an active learning event during a panel presentation at an academic conference, Mercer University librarians presenting at the Georgia Libraries Conference switched the traditional way panel presentations are modeled. Instead of the question and answer session following a brief overview of the presentation, we moved our physical position in the room, closer to the participants in order to have a more intimate conversation with attendees. Using two active learning techniques, discussion and brainstorming, the presenters started a conversation with attendees about project ideas involving teaching faculty members, librarians, and students …

The number of citations a paper receives helps to determine the impact of your research. Even if your research is excellent, if no one finds your paper, it won’t be cited. Similar to a company for marketing a retail product, Academic Search Engine Optimization (ASEO) of your journal papers is important to market your research findings. ASEO is almost obligatory if you would like to increase readership of your papers, increase citations and acknowledgment and to create an overall stronger academic visibility, both offline and online. How To Select A Brand Name For Your Research Interest?, Nader Ale Ebrahim

Nader Ale Ebrahim

The first challenge of the researcher is to choose an interesting and unique research brand. The research brand name should appear in the title, abstract and keywords of the paper. The title is extremely important and must be chosen with great care as it will be read by thousands, whereas few will read the entire paper. On the other hand, indexing and abstracting of the paper depends on the accuracy of the title. An improperly titled paper will get lost and will never be read. The unique research name makes title meaningful and not general.

A New Research Impact Measuring System, Nader Ale Ebrahim

Nader Ale Ebrahim

For years, scientists have been trying to measure the quality of scholarly work by the number of times an article is cited in other articles or the impact factor of the journal which published an article. However, citation is a lagging indicator and journal impact factor may be misleading since a Journal's citation count is usually caused by a small number of articles in that journal. With the rise of the web as the archiving and emerging interaction platform, there is a need for new ways to measure articles and books impact. Altmetrics attempts to use the online activity to …

A research-based understanding of how to develop and assess classroom presentation skills is vital for the effective development of pre-service teacher communication capabilities. This paper identifies and compares two different models of assessing pre-service teachers’ presentation performance – one based on the Modes of Communication (voice, body language, words, and alignment between those elements) and another based on features of the Constructed Impression of the communication acts (confidence, clarity, engagement and appropriateness). The Modes of Communication and the Constructed Impression of 164 pre-service teacher presentations were rated. The Constructed Impression model provided a better fit to data, while averaging of …
