Applying An Asiancrit Lens On Chinese International Students: History, Intersections, And Asianization During Covid-19, Lorine Erika Saito, Jiangfeng Li

This theoretical paper explores how Chinese international students (CISs) in the US are situated through an AsianCrit lens during the COVID-19 pandemic. Stemming from Critical Race Theory, AsianCrit addresses the varying historical underpinnings of racism against Asian American communities, which the authors would like to expand into Chinese sojourner populations. Anti-Chinese sentiment is evident in US history through the prohibition of Chinese immigration and violation of civil rights dating back to well over a century. The purpose of this literature review and these consultations is to present the demands and needs of ESL volunteers in order that they may be effective teachers. These demands of ESL volunteers will be categorized according to the eight domains of the 2008 TESOL International Association Standards for ESL/EFL Teachers of Adults Framework. The literature review comprised of a thematic search of past and current research. The consultation process was semi-structured, phenomenological, and qualitative. What Is Gained And At What Cost? A Critical Co-Constructed Autoethnographic Study Examining National Identity From A Transnational Perspective., Stephanie Mccutcheon

The phenomenon of learning abroad will not diminish in an increasingly globalized economy and it is important to better understand the interconnectedness of relationships, benefits, and potential detriments in this growing area of education. This study is an exploration of conceptualizations of nationality in educational spaces from a transnational perspective. I create a co-constructed narrative with a transnational student that traverses the borders of two nations, while considering the relations and practices of her experiences in association to my own in order to better understand national identity formation as it is interconnected with formal and implicit curriculum.

Various federal and state statutes in the United States define the role of the court interpreter with clear and unequivocal rules. This definition is based on the underlying principles of the U.S. legal system, which is derived from the Anglo-Saxon common-law tradition. Consequently, the distinctive features of that system, including the jury trial and the concept of adversarial proceedings, make the function of the court interpreter quite different from that of his/her counterparts in other countries. Community interpreting, which includes court and medical interpreting, is following the typical pattern of a profession in its infancy. In the beginning it is characterized by a lack of standards for training and practice, disorganization and disunity among practitioners, a lack of recognition of the profession among clients and the public, and poor working conditions. These circumstances improve as practitioners unite and form professional associations to impose discipline and standardization and to achieve recognition through education, legislation and public relations.
