Covering necessary information literacy topics in a one shot session can be difficult. To address this challenge, the Marquette Raynor Memorial Libraries moved to a new instruction model for the First Year English program. The new model involved embedded librarianship and interactive Articulate Storyline tutorials pre-loaded into the Learning Management System (LMS). These new initiatives provided flexibility in teaching information literacy concepts and fostered stronger relationships between librarians and their instructors. This manuscript offers an overview of key research in the social sciences regarding links between poverty and education. We begin by discussing conceptual definitions of poverty and education and the ways these concepts have been operationalized in the literature. We then review literatures related to two broad themes: how poverty shapes educational outcomes, and how education affects chances of living in poverty. Within each theme, wherever possible, we consider research at the national, sub-national, and household or individual level.

Measuring Apa Goal 2: Critical Thinking And The Psychology Major, Kinsey Bolinder, Eric Barlow, Talegria Brown, R. Eric Landrum

We studied 21 junior-level psychology majors and their critical thinking and statistical reasoning skills. Modifying the Lawson et al. (2015) scoring rubric, we measured both critical thinking ability and developed a new measure of statistical reasoning. Tese methods may help psychology educators assess student competence within APA Goal 2.

We examined if providing students with resources can make a difference in the consideration of graduate school regarding self-efficacy, certainty, confidence, and awareness. Twenty-six first-year psychology majors were randomly assigned to one of four study conditions, and also completed a 16-item pretest-posttest survey about graduate school intentions.

Libraries often face challenges when launching new services and integrating new applications with existing systems. Universal problems in the library world include not only technical issues but also the need for cooperation and working relationships both within the library and outside of the library. Last August XXX University Libraries completed our initial roll out of SIPX, a new electronic reserves system which is a cloud based product created by Stanford University. Although both the military and fraternities have been theorized to be characterized by
norms and attitudes that serve to legitimize violence against women, no previous work has
examined the potential similarity and differences in rape-supportive beliefs of these 2
environments or the people drawn to them. Further, the belief systems of women within
these organizations have received little attention. As such, the current study sought to serve
as an initial exploration of the rape-supportive belief systems of people drawn to these

Through autoethnographic poetry, I take the reader on a journey through my experience of moving to Laramie, Wyoming, to become faculty at the University of Wyoming. As a gay male who is still haunted by the 1998 brutal murder of Matthew Shepard in Laramie, I engage in storytelling: relaying my personal experiences of living in modern-day Laramie, showing the reader my fears, obstacles, and revelations through prose.

Teacher Qualifications And Student Achievement: A Panel Data Of Analysis, Trevor Collier

Recent academic research suggests that teacher quality plays an important role in student achievement: however, empirical research on the efficacy of policies requiring teachers to obtain certain degrees is inconclusive, particularly in elementary education. This paper models a panel data production function with fixed effects using the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study (ECLS-K) to asses the relationship between different undergraduate and graduate majors and elementary student test scores. Specifcally, we aim to discern if there is a difference in teacher efficacy within the different education related majors (e.g. early childhood education and elementary education) and between education and non-education related majors.

Members of the first cohort (2014) of the Association of College and Research Libraries’ (ACRL) Assessment in Action (AiA) learning community share the impact of the AiA program on library and university assessment initiatives. This article shares brief examples of effective and challenging cross-campus collaborative assessment projects and the five best practices the authors developed through the year-long experience of examining student success in three different academic library environments.

Using a data set that augments a student survey with administrative data from the Iowa State University Office of Financial Aid, the authors posed two questions: Do students know whether they have student loans? Do students know how much they owe on outstanding student loans? We used logistic and ordered logit regressions to answer these questions. Results suggest that although the majority of students are aware that they owe on student loans, many underestimate the amount they owe. One eighth of students in the current study reported no student debt when, in fact, they had a loan. Over a quarter …

Since Coleman (1966), many have questioned whether school spending affects student outcomes. The school finance reforms that began in the early 1970s and accelerated in the 1980s caused some of the most dramatic changes in the structure of K–12 education spending in US history. To study the effect of these school-finance-reform-induced changes in school spending on long-run adult outcomes, we link school spending and school finance reform data to detailed, nationally-representative data on children born between 1955 and 1985 and followed through 2011. At least to some extent, their evolution has been the product of planning rather than passive acceptance of, or reactive response to, environmental conditions. This document introduces readers to nearly 20 sources—representing the fields of business, higher education, and library/information science—that convey important insights into library planning. Academic library planning increasingly reflects a context in which educational and other institutions are held accountable for the outcomes of their decisions.
