Advanced Techniques In Women's Field Hockey With Emphasis On Teaching Aids, Harriet Louise Sheldon Jan 1950

Advanced Techniques In Women's Field Hockey With Emphasis On Teaching Aids, Harriet Louise Sheldon

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The teaching of organized physical education for girls in our schools is rather new in comparison to the number of years schools have existed. In some states physical education is not part of the curriculum but in others, such as California, it is required by law. When one realizes that physical education in the schools is in its infancy one becomes aware of the fact that source materials must therefore be inadequate. Hockey, although an ancient sport, is one of the comparatively newest field sports in the curriculum of the physical education program in the United States. As a result …

While still attempting to decide on a topic for a thesis study, the author was asked, "How far from the up- ports of a continuous-bean reinforced-concrete bridge should the reinforcing for negative moment extend into the spany." It was a simple question, and the reason for it being asked was that a particular structure, the one shown in the frontispiece, had developed transverse cracks in the surface of the deck structure a distance of three and a half feet from the center of both interior supports. (See the plan view in figure 6, Appendix.) The cracks were by no means …

A Survey Of Athletic Training Departments Of 16 Four Year Colleges In The State Of California, Irving B. Thompson

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The care of the athlete has come into much discussion and has been the object of much research, but all this has come about in recent years. The athlete's health is paramount to a successful team and a conscientious coach; more so is his health important in contact sports with intercollegiate football in the foreground. The interest in football injuries has increased with the increased emphasis of the sport, for the coach is finding it more and more important to have all his players in the best possible condition to withstand the physical and mental strain under which they must …

Recreation In The Church : An Analysis And A Prospectus, Lawton Delmar Harris Jan 1948

Recreation In The Church : An Analysis And A Prospectus, Lawton Delmar Harris

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

In a measure, the thesis seeks to bring together a consideration of the program and problems from both the secular and religious viewpoints. The two are based upon the same psychological needs of humanity, but the two fields have become isolated in their fundamental approaches. The secular books barely mention the church and its programs. They have a tendency to regard the church as a "has-been.. in the field. They imply that the church should conduct "religious" services and leave recreation to the agencies. To this the writer cannot give agreement. On the other hand, many of the books written …

The opinions of experts in such fields as anthropology, economics, sociology, and psychology will be analyzed in an effort to determine how such friction may be eliminated …

The Administration Of A Child Care Center During The War Emergency, Laurence A. Farrar Jan 1945

The Administration Of A Child Care Center During The War Emergency, Laurence A. Farrar

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

As a teacher in the Stockton Public Schools, the writer became interested in the child-care program when he was asked to direct the newly formed center at the Lafayette school in Stockton on July 1, 1945. At this writing he served nearly two years in this center and has a modest feeling that possibly his experiences, observations and conclusions might be worth writing down, hence this thesis.

At the outset the author intended to confine his thesis to the Child-Care Center as a war emergency matter, feeling that child-care centers were more or less of recent origin, set up mainly …

A Study Of The Height And Weight Of Chinese School Children In Some Northern Californian Cities, Lillian Wai-Chuen Chow Jan 1944

A Study Of The Height And Weight Of Chinese School Children In Some Northern Californian Cities, Lillian Wai-Chuen Chow

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

In any study of physical fitness or of nutritional well-being of a group of people, a knowledge of the normal height and weight of that group serves as a valuable guide. Thus, Height-Weight-Age tables have been prepared and are being used in schools, gymnasiums, camps, etc., as a gauge of physical development in children. However, for the group of Chinese school children in the United States very little work has been done to determine the normal height range and weight at the different ages and the normal height-weight-age relationships.

Because of the lack of data on the normal weights and …

In San Joaquin County 5,000 Japanese were evacuated. Most of these …
