The purpose of this dissertation was to investigate the lived experiences of community college dance students. Previous research was examined to provide a more holistic picture of dancers during their college years and while in the workforce. The literature reviewed indicated that the emergence of dance as a field of study was controversial. The focus of this research was to understand the lived experiences and working perceptions of Florida HBCU first-year seminar professionals. Much empirical work has been done to examine the experiences of students transitioning into the college environment. In contrast, there is little work that specifically looks at the professionals that service first-year students within a minority serving context, specifically Historically Black Colleges and Universities. As a result, the findings of this study suggest that Florida HBCU first-year seminar professionals are active partners in the scholastic success of its freshman students.

Male College Presidents With Children: Recollections On Perceptions Of Work-Life Balance., Asquith Armstrong

This qualitative research study explored the recollections of work-life balance and fatherhood through the reported experiences and reflections of select college presidents. The researcher used a basic narrative research practice which allowed individuals to share their experiences while shedding light on how the individuals see themselves. Six college presidents participated in one-on-one semi structured interviews. The researcher incorporated Clark's Work-family border theory as the framework for this study, which recognized that a working individual largely functions in two separate domains: work and family. This functional area of student affairs is responding to myriad student needs. Staff are responding to varying levels of campus emergencies, student illness, and assault (physical or sexual) on a given workday or workweek (Ojo & Thomas, 2012). Campus Safety Directors: A Leadership Frame Analysis, Ross A. Wolf

This study is based on leadership frame theory as developed by Drs. Lee Bolman and Terrence Deal who merged several different schools of theory into four different frames: structural, human resource, political, and symbolic. In July, 1998 the Leadership Orientation (Self) survey, developed by Bolman and Deal (1990a) was distributed to 343 campus safety directors at American public four-year postsecondary institutions. A return of 190 (55.4%) useable survey instruments was obtained in this study.
