As costs around the world continue to rise for education, institutions must become innovative in the ways they teach and grow students. To do this effectively, professors and administrative staff should push toward the utilization of Open Source Software (OSS) and virtual tools to enhance or supplement currently available tools. In developing countries, OSS applications would allow students the ability to learn critical technological skills for success at small fraction of the cost. One of the most important ways of evaluating teachers and education is by asking the students. Near the end of each semester, university students (and an increasing number of primary and secondary students) are handed forms to evaluate their teachers and classes. The purpose of this study was to examine a Masters in Education (MEDU) cohort at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) to measure their perceptions of the value of information literacy instruction in the graduate classroom. Findings indicate that MEDU students recognize the importance of information literacy skills and value the information literacy instruction they received in the masters program because it not only improved their information literacy skills but their overall achievement.

Faculty Perceptions Of The Value Of Academic Libraries: A Mixed Method Study, Kelly Heider, Sandra Janicki, Joann Janosko, Blaine Knupp, Carl Rahkonen

This article details the findings of a year-long study at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) Libraries which examined IUP faculty members’ perceptions of the value of library resources and services to both their research and teaching. Through a mixed-method study, which included an online survey and follow-up focus groups, the researchers found that faculty were dissatisfied with IUP Libraries’ marketing initiatives but satisfied with its small embedded librarian program. As a result, marketing and growth of the embedded librarian program became the two main focus areas for improvement in the next academic year.

This study investigates the relationship between the use of classroom recordings and student achievement in critical foreign languages. Recording classrooms has become popular in recent years with the advent of digital media and inexpensive devices to play such files. It is now easy to create audio recordings of face-to-face classes and post them online. To date, however, there has been little empirical study of the role that these recordings play in students' achievement.

Multiple studies have shown the strong predictive power of high school grade point average (HSGPA) in forecasting future academic performance outcomes. However, the methods for calculating HSGPAs vary among schools, with some employing weighted methods in their calculations and others using unweighted scales. Due to these inconsistencies, it is often difficult to compare HSGPAs across high schools. This study involved the coding of 551 high school transcripts of pre-med college students in Texas. Unweighted HSGPAs were then calculated for each of these students on a standard 4.0 scale. Three multiple regression models were then created for the students with complete …
