The primary objectives of the New Writing Series are (i) to make contemporary poetry and fiction a valued part of the cultural life at the University of Maine, (ii) to broaden the University's local, national, and international reputation as a site of vibrant cultural exchange and creativity, and (iii) to cultivate links within the University as well as between the University and area secondary schools that foster imaginative approaches to thinking about contemporary literary practices. Art Exhibition, Todd Webb: Joy Without Measure, University Of Maine- Museum Of Art
Cultural Affairs Distinguished Lecture Series
Joy Without Measure, which has involved two years of planning and research, will feature 65 gelatine silver prints of the artist's evocative work, including his photographs of New York City and Paris, spanning 60 years of image making. The exhibit will highlight significant contributions to American photography in the second half of the 20th century by exploring the works of this acknowledged master photographer.

Aquila Theatre Company will present Shakespeare's classic tragedy Julius Caesar, which traces the conspiracy against Caesar, his assassination and the aftermath. The play reflects the general anxiety Shakespeare and his contemporaries had over who would succeed Elizabeth I. The elderly Elizabeth refused to name a successor, leading to fears that a civil war would break out upon her death.

Cultural programming consisting of two significant events: 1) a major exhibition, In Plain Sight, and guest lecture by John Whalley, a well-known "realist" Maine artist; and 2) a guest lecture and sculpture critique by Professor Cristin Millett, Associate Professor of Art, Pennsylvania State University. These events will offer students, faculty, staff, and the local community opportunities for diverse cultural experiences.
