Ouachita Baptist University sophomore Tori Blum, a studio art major from McKinney, Texas, earned first place in the university’s 2023 Student Juried Art Show. Winners were announced during a reception held on April 26 in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s Hammons Art Gallery to open the show. Sponsored by the Ouachita Art Club, the exhibit features the work of 15 students – including Blum – and will be on display in Hammons Gallery through Oct. 6. It is free and open to the public.

The Rosemary Gossett Adams Department of Art & Design in Ouachita Baptist University’s School of Fine Arts is hosting exhibits featuring paper-mache and screen prints through Sept. 30 in the Adams Gallery of Moses-Provine Hall. Admission is free and open to the public, and after-hours access is available by appointment.

“Germinal,” a sculptural installation exhibit by Kara Gunter, is found on the first floor, while “Estamos Aqui,” an exhibit of prints by Latino artists curated by Brad Cushman, is located in the second-floor gallery.

The Rosemary Gossett Adams Department of Art & Design in Ouachita Baptist University’s School of Fine Arts is hosting an exhibit of ceramics works by Arkansas artists Logan Hunter and Hannah May through Feb. 18 in the Adams Gallery of Moses-Provine Hall. The exhibit features a collection of painted canvases focused on people engaging in social interaction in crowded public spaces. Ouachita Baptist University’s Art Club will host its annual Juried Student Art Exhibit from Feb. 1-March 2 in Ouachita’s Hammons Art Gallery, located in Mabee Fine Arts Center. This year’s juror was John Deering, award-winning cartoonist and illustrator for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. Winners will be announced at a reception on Feb. 12, 6-7 to p.m., in Hammons Gallery. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.

A variety of student work will be featured in the exhibit, including paintings, sculptures, photographs and other media.

King, who received an honorary Doctorate of Laws degree from Dominican President Mary B. Marcy at Commencement in 2013, was a broadcast journalist for 25 years, which included network stints with ABC’s “Good Morning America Sunday” and the “CBS Morning News” and “CBS Evening News.” She joined San Francisco’s CBS-5 KPIX television as news anchor in 1997. In her 15 years at KPIX, King traveled extensively for the station, bringing to her Bay Area viewers reports of struggle, survival, and perseverance from around the world.

The Art Club is a three-year-old program created by the Department of Art, Art History and Design. Held at the Albert Boro Community Center in the Canal district in San Rafael, it provides quality arts education for local youth. It is made possible through an art education grants from the Marin Community Foundation and U.S. Bank and an ongoing partnership with the City of San Rafael Community Services with the support of Steve Mason, director of the Boro Center.
