Aim: This study aimed to investigate the similarities and differences related to verbal and social interaction skills between nursing students attending universities in Sweden and China, two countries with different educational systems, during the students’ first semester.

Background: Nurses need a high level of interaction skills in order to interact effectively with patients and their families. Thus, practical nursing education focusing on clinical skills is essential.

Method: Students at one university in Sweden and two universities in China completed the Verbal and Social Interactions for Nursing Students (VSI-NS) questionnaire.

Currently, we are faced with an important equity gap and opportunity for nursing in higher education related to Indigenous Peoples and health. While Westernized higher education often marginalizes Indigenous Peoples, there is an important opportunity to respectfully engage with Indigenous Knowledges. Furthermore, broadening perspectives beyond a dominant Westernized worldview has the potential to advance higher education for Indigenous and non-Indigenous learners alike. In recent years, there has been a shift in Canadian healthcare education. In some regions where access to healthcare education may be limited, post-secondary educational institutions have partnered with local Indigenous groups to provide community-based healthcare educational programs to attract and support Indigenous students. The purpose of this study was to explore how members of a community with a community-based healthcare program describe student success and the factors that influence it.
