This study examined the impact of some demographic and organizational variables (gender, school type, and parental involvement) on the performance of Grade 8 students in the 2015 Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) assessment in the Abu Dhabi Emirate. The study employed a mixed method design to determine if, and to what extent, these factors affected how the students performed in the assessment. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of IXL Math online software in raising student achievement on the New York State Math exam, with special focus on effects by student gender, ethnicity and disability status. The study includes an analysis of the relationship between scale scores and time spent using the IXL system, number of problems attempted, and skills mastered. Demographic Characteristics And Information Technology Competence Skills On The Use Of E-Portal Among Undergraduates In Adeyemi College Of Education, Ondo, Christopher Omotunde, Opeyemi Omotunde

This study investigated the influence of demographic characteristics and information technology competence skills on the use of E-portal among undergraduates in Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo State, Nigeria. The findings revealed a positive significant relationship between IT competence skill and their use of e-portal (r= .190, p<0.05). Gender has a significant influence on the use of e-portal (t=2.071, p<0.05) also, respondents age has a significant influence on use of e-portal (F _{(3; 246)} =2.892; p<0.05). The study concluded that IT competence skills and demographic characteristics of undergraduates have an influence on the use of E-portal. It is recommended that higher institutions of learning in Nigeria should further explore the potentials of E-portal for its teaching, learning and research.

Digital games and simulations (DG&S) could help mitigate inequities in civic education and participation, which are found in many contemporary democracies. Yet incorporating DG&S into the curriculum may reinforce or introduce inequities for students who are less engaged by game-based learning. A quasi-experimental study of 301 U.S. high school students in social studies classes examined whether prior academic performance, civic engagement, civic game play experience and gender affected how (and which) students benefit from playing a life simulation game. Library and information science is a technologically intensive profession with a high percentage of women, unlike computer science and other male-dominated fields. On the occasion of the 2011 Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE) conference, this essay analyzes the theme “Competitiveness and Innovation” through a review of social psychology and science and technology studies literature. Both theme concepts have ramifications for library and information science (LIS) education. Librarianship and teaching are both professions that resist commodification because they rely on embodied labor and personal interaction.
