This qualitative, single embedded case study, framed on Bioecological Systems Theory, Adult Learning Theory, and a Family-Systems Intervention Model investigates the reasons parents and caregivers of young children enroll in and complete parent education classes during the birth to three-year period, as well as the supports that may contribute to positive early parent-child communication or the barriers that may prevent these interactions from occurring (Bronfenbrenner, 2005; Dunst & Trivette, 2009; Knowles et al., 2020). This study evaluated the accessibility and effectiveness of a pilot virtual synchronous group-based E3 Parent Education (E3PE) program initiated in Whitefish, Montana, in January 2021. It is a qualitative study of a model designed initially for a virtual live group-learning setting to empower parents in building a nourishing family environment. Parent education has been proven as an effective intervention and prevention of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and K-12 student mental health problems and behavioral issues. Most educators know that it is very important to a child’s overall success to be supported socially and emotionally, especially in Early Childhood. We understand that children do not just act out the way they do because they feel like misbehaving. The challenging behavior is usually the cause of some other sort of reaction the child might not know how to explain or verbalize, for example: feeling tired, hungry, or uncomfortable in a certain situation.

Parents Opinions Matter: The Impact Of Incentives On Parent/Child Workshops Within The Raising A Reader Program, Samantha Kennedy

This action research focused on the incentives parents/guardians found valuable when participating in parent/child workshops within the Raising a Reader program. The research took place over six weeks within the public school system in a low-income, rural district in Maryland. All parents and guardians with children in prekindergarten and kindergarten classes received invitations to be a part of the research. The research utilized artifact data from previous parent surveys, inquiry data consisting of pre and post assessments, and observational data during parent/child workshops.
