Ec98-149 Summer Annual Forages For The Nebraska Panhandle: Variety Tests, 1989-1992 And 1997, Burt Weichenthal, David D. Baltensperger, Patrick E. Reece
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
Summer annual forage grasses can provide valuable forage as pasture, green chop, silage, and hay. With adequate soil moisture these forages grow very rapidly during warm summer months. Most varieties are relatively drought resistant because of efficient water use. It is important to select a type and variety most suitable to the system in which it is to used. Nebraska producers have relied primarily on six types of summer annual forage grasses to meet or supplement forage needs. This circular is a summary report of summer annual forage trials conduted in 1989-92 and 1997 to obtain forage production and quality …

Science Laboratory Investigations In Year 9: Instruction And Assessment, Pamela J. Garnett
Science Laboratory Investigations In Year 9: Instruction And Assessment, Pamela J. Garnett
Theses: Doctorates and Masters
The purpose of this research was to develop, implement and evaluate science investigation work based on a cognitive apprenticeship model of instruction and 'linked' to different assessment procedures. Data were gathered to evaluate the effects of the instruction and approaches to assessment on teachers and students, and on the development of students' investigation competency. Year 9 students performed six science investigations in which they examined a relationship between variables. Groups of three students worked together to choose the independent variable, plan their investigation, collect and analyse their data, and to evaluate their findings. The cognitive apprenticeship model of instruction included …

An Investigation Of The Amount Of Emphasis Placed On Content And Delivery By Instructors Of Public Speaking, Paul J. Siddens Iii
Faculty Publications
A study examined how much emphasis instructors of public speaking place on content and delivery when teaching and delivering oral and written critiques. The study sought to determine whether when teaching a hybrid introduction to communication course; or public speaking course; instructors are challenged with teaching their students about issues related to the content of the speech; such as the introduction and conclusion; organization; supporting evidence; and issues related to physical and vocal delivery such as appearance; gestures; eye contact; volume; rate; and vocal variety. This was a pilot study to test the research questions; survey instrument; and methodology used …

A Study Of Integrated Learning Systems In The Public Schools, Mary N. Parker
Masters Theses
The purpose of this study was to investigate the use of an Integrated Learning System (ILS). This study focused on how public school districts in Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, and Iowa were using the ILS. Eighty-five surveys were sent to public school contact persons whose names were provided by Computer Curriculum Corporation (CCC) which produces an ILS called SuccessMaker. Other software providers refused to cooperate in supplying names for the study. The study also asked if the ILS were effective in producing student gains.
While this study did not statistically evaluate the effectiveness of the ILS compared to control groups, or …
