The Problem: The major concern of this study is the identification of competencies necessary for successful teaching in the elementary schools. It is proposed in this investigation to perform the following tasks:
1. To describe the competencies needed by elementary teachers for quality job performance.
2. To assemble these competencies into a behavior pattern that will reveal the job of elementary teachers in entirety, as reflected in the elements and element relationships which makeup a useful Competency Pattern.

The purpose of this study is to identify and appraise those phases of the elementary school curricular experiences that can best be realized in a camping situation. Educators are on the alert to find methods, procedures and experiences for providing enriched learning experiences that contribute significantly to the total growth, development and adjustment of boys and girls. Some feel that the classroom is too confining and the program too stereotyped to adequately prepare children for participation in modern society.
