The purpose of this study is to find the comparison of urban, suburban and rural students’ performance in students’ psychological factors; general self-concept, science self-concept, self-efficacy, science self-efficacy, selfesteem, anxiety, and science anxiety among guidance school students. The participants in the study were 680 guidance school students, (317 male and 363 female, in the age 14 years old) at Tehran and Shahriar City, the province of Tehran, Iran. The research design was an ex-post facto and tested the alternative hypotheses. Purpose: This study compares the development of essential elements of narrative skill in children from African American English (AAE)- and general American English (GAE)-speaking communities using an innovative elicitation and evaluation paradigm. The measures include: 1) reference contrasting, 2) temporal expressions, 3) mental state descriptions, and 4) understanding of behavior based on false belief. Method: Participants were 291 AAE speakers and 238 GAE speakers, 4 to 9 years of age. Approximately one-third of both dialect groups were identified as language impaired. Children generated two stories based on short picture sequences. Their stories were coded for the four key indices of …

Spotlight Project 2007-2012 Dr. Maria Lombardo, Project Coordinator With the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act, it becomes imperative that limited English proficient students, including those with disabilities and language learning deficits, be included in meeting the high standards established for all children. The Act also stipulates that classrooms be led by “highly qualified teachers,” hence the problem since there is a shortage of teachers trained to serve the needs of English Language Learners (ELLs) (Menken & Barron, 2002). University professors are developing an increasing awareness of how creative teaching is contributing to active learning in the classroom. Much is being learned from research that explores the significance of engaging students in activities designed to increase their learning. This article examines essential components of active learning, discusses ways in which multi-instructional teaching and technology can be used to generate active learning in the classroom, and provides examples of strategies, models, and tools that can be implemented to enhance student engagement and active learning in today's classroom
