Social Epistemology And The Pragmatics Of Assessment, Kenneth J. Gergen, Ezekiel J. Dixon-Román
Social Epistemology And The Pragmatics Of Assessment, Kenneth J. Gergen, Ezekiel J. Dixon-Román
Ezekiel J Dixon-Román
In the present offering we challenge the presumption that the educational testing of students provides objective information about such students. This presumption largely rests on an empiricist account of science. In light of mounting criticism, however, empiricist foundationalism has given way to a social epistemology. From this standpoint, empirical data are only objective for those who share assumptions and values that are themselves without foundations. Thus, the major questions to be raised about testing are not in terms of whether test results supply the truth about those who are evaluated, but concern the utility of the tests for the full …

While the United Nations Principles of Responsible Management Education (PRME) is a very positive development in the horizon of management education over the last decade, there are still many significant challenges for engaging the mind of the manager in ways that will foster the values of PRME and the UN Global Compact. Responsible management education must address three foundational challenges in business education if it is to actualize the aspirations of PRME: 1) it must confront the cognitional myth that knowing is like looking, 2) it must move beyond mere analysis to systems thinking, and 3) it must transition from …
Conversing With Longfellow: Democratizing The American Literature Curriculum, Lauren Gatti
Conversing With Longfellow: Democratizing The American Literature Curriculum, Lauren Gatti
Lauren Gatti
Reconsidering Longfellow is the first collection of scholarly essays in several decades devoted entirely to the work and afterlife of the most popular and widely read writer in American literature. The essays, written by a new generation of Longfellow scholars, cover the entire range of Longfellow’s work, from the early poetry to the wildly successful epics of his middle period (Evangeline, The Song of Hiawatha) to his Chaucerian collection of stories published after the Civil War, Tales of a Wayside Inn. Separate contributions discuss Longfellow’s financial dealings, his investment in his children, and his interest in the visual arts, as …

Blue Cow, Green Cow, Rebecca Saunders

This play was written to provide lots of parts for children. It's about two children who think they are cows. Their mother takes them to a veterinarian who also thinks they are cows! There are as many cow parts as you have children who like to moo.

This children's play is one I wrote in English but translated into Haitian Kreyol with the help of Joel Theodat. It's about a rabbit who loves peas and steals them from a little girl's garden; that is, until she captures him! We did a script-in-hand reading of the play at the Creole Institute at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, in July, 2014.
Educating Prisoners Of Tradition: Visual Narratives Of Afghan Women On Social Media, Esmaeil Zeiny
Educating Prisoners Of Tradition: Visual Narratives Of Afghan Women On Social Media, Esmaeil Zeiny
Esmaeil Zeiny
More than a decade after the US-led intervention of Afghanistan, traditional and tribal customs still play a significant role in the everyday lives of people, especially women. History has proven that women have been playing a significant role in shaping the course of Afghanistan but unfortunately, they are always subjected to different degrees of force by patriarchy and traditions. By examining the historical perspective of women’s status in Afghanistan and by analyzing two Youtube documentaries on women’s imprisonment, we argue that 12 years after the US-led intervention, women are still suffering from traditional and tribal laws. This paper seeks to …
