The Behavioral Contagion Effect Of Tourists’ Risk Decision-Making, Jiangchi Zhang, Chaowu Xie, Feifei Lai, Songshan Huang
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
This study investigated the contagion effect of other tourists' risk-seeking behavior on tourists' risk decision-making. It further examined the mediation of two contrasting motivational systems (approach-avoidance), and the moderation of destination management deterrence. Four experiments were conducted focusing on the risk decision-making of tourists in the context of undeveloped natural areas and tidal-bore watching settings. Independent samples t-tests, regression, and multivariate analysis of covariance were utilized to examine the proposed conceptual model. The results of Experiment 1 (n = 226) demonstrated that seeing other tourists' risk-seeking behavior had a contagion effect on tourists' risk decisions; specifically, other tourists' risk-seeking behavior …

Characteristics Of Place For Food Destinations: A Foodscape Perspective, Andy Widyanta, Eerang Park
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
There is a lack of understanding of the fundamental relation between food and place and the attributes of the production and consumption of food experiences that collectively make a place a food tourism destination. This chapter explores how a food destination is characterised through a foodscape lens together with the local stakeholders’ and tourists’ viewpoints of commercialised food tourism activities in an emerging food tourism destination. The results reveal five attributes that shape a place as a food tourism destination. These attributes are: connection of food to culinary landscape; social interactions; food quality; price; and linkages between food and agriculture.

Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Efficient knowledge transfer enhances tourism destination competitiveness. Multiple factors, however, affect knowledge transfer, making it a complex process to quantify. To address this complexity, we developed a quantitative tool by integrating a diffusion model with the major antecedents of knowledge transfer identified in the knowledge management literature. We applied this model in the Western Australian tourism industry and demonstrated its practicality. The proposed model provides a quantitative tool for destination management organizations to monitor, assess and improve the efficiency of knowledge diffusion within their tourism destinations. Such improved knowledge diffusion is critical in strengthening a destination's innovative capabilities and competitiveness.
