Influences Of Transformational Leadership Mixed With Contemporary Practices Among High School Coaches: A Qualitative Exploratory Study, Kylene M. Brewton

This qualitative study examined factors influencing transformational leadership (TL) among high school coaches. Although previous research shows that TL improves athlete performance, emotional development, and team cohesion, little attention has been paid to how TL skills develop in secondary school sports, specifically to be used by coaching staff. Using Bass and Avolio’s four “I’s” framework—idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration—the study explored the impact of gender, coaching experience, sport coached, and mentorship on TL practices. Ten high school coaches from the mid-southern United States participated in three rounds of interviews using the Differentiated Transformational Leadership Inventory (DTLI). …

Increasingly universities are leaving the lower Football Championship Series (FCS) for the potentially greener pastures of the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), but are they really greener? Is bigger always better? Since 2008, there have been 17 universities that have reclassified to the NCAA FBS subdivision. The purpose of this study was to study NCAA FCS to FBS reclassification from 2008 to 2023 to research the athletics and non-athletics related impacts that occurred and what factors most influenced the universities in the sample to choose to pursue reclassification. Political and Social issues have encompassed the athletic nature of sport. Athlete activism has been increasingly more common. Specifically, Colin Kaepernick and Megan Rapinoe have been two prominent activists to advocate for inequalities. 379 respondents, collected from Mount Vernon High School and Amazon Mechanical Turk (MTurk) participated in a study using questionnaires adopted from Sappington (2019) and Torres-Harding (2011). The Social Justice Scale (SJS) is an 11-item questionnaire measuring activism and The Attitudes of Athlete Activism Questionnaire (ATAAQ) contained 19-items that thoroughly measure athlete activism perspectives. Depression in college athletics has become a growing concern in recent years. Thus, the current review sough to provide a comprehensive overview of the research conducted up to this point on the subject of depression in college athletics, while also revealing areas in which more research is still needed. The initial search of the research databases produced 729 articles. 26 of the articles met the inclusion criteria and were accepted for the review. Effects Of Message Framing On Parents’ Attitudes Toward Concussion In Youth Sports, Christopher S. Rivera

This study investigates the effects of message framing on parents’ attitudes toward concussion in youth sports. One of two digital surveys were sent via email to each of 250 participants. 125 participants received a survey preceded by a negative-framed infographic. The other 125 participants received a survey preceded by a positive-framed infographic. Our analysis shows the framed-message infographics had a negligible effect on parents’ attitudes toward concussion in youth sports. We conclude that regardless of knowledge or understanding of concussions, parents are likely to allow participation in full contact and collision sports. Sexual harassment has persisted for decades but has recently gained attention, especially after the “Me Too” movement. Sexual harassment can happen to anyone, regardless of gender, age, race, or other characteristics. It can also occur anywhere, such as the workplace or in sport. This descriptive study looks at a sample of professional cheerleaders and dancers to determine their experience with sexual harassment. Through an open-ended questionnaire, they were given the opportunity to have their voices heard. Responses revealed who their harassers were, to whom they reported, and post-harassment symptoms, such as stress. Findings showed that fans and people within the …

This study looks to find what experienced high school team sport coaches believe are the qualities and leadership characteristics that they feel make them successful and effective. The study reviews previous literature that exists that studies high school team sport coaches. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of smart device's interactivity on customer value co-creation in the sports industry through bridging social capital and collective efficacy. A total of 262 students participated in the study, and a structural equation modeling (SEM) was carried out to measures the relationship between variables in the conceptual model. The results revealed that interactivity consisting of user control, responsiveness, and synchronicity had a significant impact on bridging social capital. Hamstring injuries are a common occurrence in athletics and result in a significant amount of time lost from training and competition. Many factors have previously been proposed that may have the potential to increase an individuals' susceptibility of sustaining a hamstring injury including fatigue, flexibility, strength, and anterior pelvic tilt. Anterior pelvic tilt was correlated with the hamstrings to quadriceps ratio at the knee and hip. Eight, Division I track and field athletes were assessed for anterior pelvic tilt and hamstrings to quadriceps ratio at the knee and hip. The purpose of this study was to identify factors that motivate fitness club employees, as well as, to investigate the relationship between 10 job-related motivational factors in Japanese fitness club employees. Participants for this study were 179 employees working in one of three fitness clubs in Japan, located in Tokyo, Osaka, or Yamaguchi. The questionnaire used was adapted from the ten job-related motivational factors developed by Kovach (1980). The results showed that "Sympathetic Help with Personal Problems" was the most important motivator, while "Good Wages" was the least important motivator.
