The research aims to examine whether there is a difference in undergraduate student performance on skill-based exams in an introductory computer literacy course at a state comprehensive university when exams are administered in-class vs. online. Two samples, each consisting of approximately 107 students, are considered for this study. A comparison of exam scores will be used to identify differences in exam performance between the two groups.

Library Faculty Publications
Librarians, a member of the Hotel College faculty, and a member of the Career Services staff at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas collaborated in the design, implementation and evaluation of a non-traditional research assignment asking students to demonstrate real world information literacy skills.
Session attendees will explore the process by which the traditional librarian-teaching faculty member collaboration grew into a richer project involving a non-traditional partnering. Attendees will be guided through a discussion on levels of collaboration and an audit of potential non-traditional partner opportunities at their own institutions.
Attendees will examine the product of this partnership: an assignment …

Link Foundation Energy Fellowship Reports
My research seeks to understand investment decision making in the electric power sector as it relates to wind energy and, ultimately, other forms of renewable energy, by investigating investor attitudes, preferences, and behavior. One strand of my research focuses on industry response to political uncertainty. One piece of this research addresses current policy incentives for wind energy. The primary source of current support for renewable energy, the federal production tax credit (PTC), typically gets renewed on a short-term basis (one to two years at a time), creating regular intervals of uncertainty about future policy. My research investigates the relationship between …

What Makes Opera Thrive – Learning From Evaluation In The Performing Arts, Paul Lorton Jr
What Makes Opera Thrive – Learning From Evaluation In The Performing Arts, Paul Lorton Jr
Business Analytics and Information Systems
For not-for-profit cultural enterprises to survive, they need to learn what makes them worthy of their community’s support for not-for-profit enterprises must secure contributions in addition to the revenues they may generate from their services. This discussion will examine the information contained in the some 500 IRS Form 990 (Return of Organization Exempt From Income Tax) report from organizations that classify their activity as “Opera” and present a matrix of goals, achievement and income mixes to build on earlier efforts at defining success for Opera companies. By systematically exploring what the criteria are, how activity is measured against those criteria …
The Dutch Auction Myth, Peter B. Oh
The Dutch Auction Myth, Peter B. Oh

The bursting of the internet bubble continues to have ripple effects on the initial public offering (IPO) process. Critics of this process have fashioned a complex set of interconnected objections to the orthodox bookbuilding method for conducting IPOs, pricing shares, and allocating them to preferred investors. Critics instead hail online reverse-bid, or Dutch, auctions (Dutch IPOs) as an alternative method promising more equitable access, efficient prices, and egalitarian allocations.
This article comprehensively assesses the case for Dutch IPOs. Part I dissects critiques of bookbuilding, which rely on anomalous data, derogate established financial literature, and largely evaporate in the face of …

Canada’S Commercial Seal Hunt, Rebecca Aldsworth, Stephen Harris
Canada’S Commercial Seal Hunt, Rebecca Aldsworth, Stephen Harris
State of the Animals 2007
Like efforts to end the commercial hunting of whales, the campaign to stop the slaughter of seals in Canada has become a major focus for animal and environment protection groups and governments the world over. For decades the face of the harp seal pup has been a symbol—to many, the symbol—of environment and animal advocacy. But as much as the campaign to save the seals has become an icon for those who would protect wildlife, the campaign to continue the hunt has become a focus for those who would block the progress of the animal protection and environmental movements.

In the 1960s, LIFE was America's single most important general weekly magazine, its photo-essay formula catering to a middle class constituency of millions. By the halfway point of that tumultuous decade, readers were accustomed to seeing searing and unpleasant images of a changing nation, one racked by civil unrest and entangled in a bloody war in Southeast Asia. But when LIFE's February 4, 1966 issue landed on newsstands and in mailboxes across the United States, with the cover's warning "YOUR DOG IS IN CRUEL DANGER," tens of millions of readers became acquainted for the first time with another kind of …
