Railroads And First Responders: A Gis Link, Jeremy Kramer
Railroads And First Responders: A Gis Link, Jeremy Kramer
Purdue Road School
The Louisville & Indiana Railroad (L&I) was awarded a $300,000 Consolidated Rail and Safety Improvements Program (CRISI) Grant to develop a geographic information mobile application linking L&I dispatch and first responders to aid communication and response during railroad incidents. This is an important development in promoting safety at rail-highway intersections.
Improve Outcomes In Lean Six Sigma With Servant Leadership, David W. Hoffa, Chad Laux, Manal Alduraibi
Improve Outcomes In Lean Six Sigma With Servant Leadership, David W. Hoffa, Chad Laux, Manal Alduraibi
International Conference on Lean Six Sigma
1. Purpose
The purpose of this study was to explore lean leadership within Lean Six Sigma (LSS). The objective of this paper was to explore how LSS program success might be improved by focusing Black Belt efforts on mentoring Green Belts with a servant leadership model. The importance of Green Belt projects is typically overlooked in the literature. The effects of prioritizing the development of Green Belts and building a culture of continuous improvement over the traditional Black Belt project focus is explored.
2. Design/Methodology/Approach
The methodology of this paper is inspired by the authors’ field experiences in managing LSS …

Driving The Future: Mobility In The 21st Century, Ted Hamer
Purdue Road School
As part of its future-focused infrastructure planning, INDOT is embarking on a project with Purdue University to understand how the development of transportation infrastructure can be linked to benefits to business supply chains, thus enabling decisions to nurture an ecosystem around connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs). KPMG will provide insight into the CAV industry.

Publishing Makerspace: A New Approach To Scholarly Publishing, Sylvia K. Miller, David Phillips, Courtney Berger, Marjorie Fowler, Rebecca Kennison, John D. Martin Iii, John Mcleod, Chelcie Rowell
Charleston Library Conference
This article describes the concept of the Publishing Makerspace, which is a publishing environment that is reconfigured as a place where all the components of a scholarly project—books and e‐books, virtual and physical exhibits, visualizations, live performance and film—can be integrated using a collaborative process. This place enables the creation of a multimodal publishing environment that fully integrates digital content with manuscripts and “traditional” scholarly content. Starting with an overview of the history of the team that devised this approach and its membership, the article describes the problem that the authors have identified with current approaches to multimodal publishing and …
How Much Do Monographs Cost? And Why Should We Care?, Nancy L. Maron, Charles Watkinson, Meredith Kahn, Shayna Pekala
How Much Do Monographs Cost? And Why Should We Care?, Nancy L. Maron, Charles Watkinson, Meredith Kahn, Shayna Pekala
Charleston Library Conference
What does it cost to make a high quality, digital monograph? What may sound like an obvious question turns out to be a very knotty one, driving to the heart of the essence of scholarly publishing today. It is particularly relevant in an environment where the potential of a sustainable open access (OA) business model for monographs is being explored. Two complementary studies funded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation in 2015 have explored this question to understand the costs involved in creating and disseminating scholarly books.
The team at Ithaka S+R studied the full costs of publishing monographs by …

An Innovative Education And Training Model For The Airline Industry: Ipop (Industry-Purdue Opportunity Pipeline), John Wensveen
Purdue Road School
iPOP is an innovative education and training model that provides: affordability and accessibility, STEM leadership, world-changing research, and transformative education. The iPOP model is based on industry partnerships with the creation of a branded entity between the academic school/department and individual partners/supporting units. Physical and virtual learning environments are created providing education and training to university students and employees at the industry partners via two pipelines (University Student Pipeline and Industry Partner Pipeline).
Airline Quality Rating 2013, Brent D. Bowen, Dean E. Headley
Airline Quality Rating 2013, Brent D. Bowen, Dean E. Headley
Airline Quality Rating Report
The Airline Quality Rating (AQR) was developed and first announced in early 1991 as an objective method for assessing airline quality on combined multiple performance criteria. This current report, the Airline Quality Rating 2013, reflects monthly Airline Quality Rating scores for calendar year 2012. AQR scores for 2013 are based on 15 elements in four major areas that focus on airline performance aspects important to air travel consumers over the calendar year of 2012.
The Airline Quality Rating 2013 is a summary of month-by-month quality ratings for U.S. airlines that are required to report performance by virtue of having at …
Development Of A Model Of Airline Consumer Satisfaction, Erin E. Bowen, Brent D. Bowen, Dean E. Headley
Development Of A Model Of Airline Consumer Satisfaction, Erin E. Bowen, Brent D. Bowen, Dean E. Headley
Aviation Technology Faculty and Staff Publications
Previous research on perceptions, satisfaction, and attitudes regarding the major commercial air carriers in the United States has provided little more than an interesting descriptive “snapshot” of the average air traveler. Building upon 20 years of work with the National Airline Quality Rating, the present study attempts to move beyond basic descriptive information of air travelers to identify attitudinal patterns and relationships in the way consumers at varying levels of travel frequency view the commercial air industry. Development of such a model allows key players the ability to improve their understanding of the prime drivers and perceptions of passenger behavior. …
Global Outsourcing Of Aircraft Maintenance, Michael Mcfadden, D. Scott Worrells
Global Outsourcing Of Aircraft Maintenance, Michael Mcfadden, D. Scott Worrells
Journal of Aviation Technology and Engineering
Before the airlines were deregulated, the majority of air carriers conducted their maintenance in-house. After deregulation, with competitive pressures mounting and airlines failing and starting up seemingly simultaneously, the outsourcing of maintenance became more prevalent. Not restricted to U.S. airlines, outsourcing maintenance has become a global practice. Factors involved in the outsourcing decision range from a startup not having the capital to develop their own in-house maintenance program, to legacy carrier’s cost cutting efforts, and all points in between. This paper will address specific aspects of the global outsourcing of aircraft maintenance. For the purposes of this paper, Maintenance, Repair, …
