A Study Of The Relationship Between Personality Characteristics And Ethical Sensitivity In Business, Ronald A. Ortiz, David Petrillo Sep 1992

A Study Of The Relationship Between Personality Characteristics And Ethical Sensitivity In Business, Ronald A. Ortiz, David Petrillo

Theses and Dissertations

This research establishes a significant relationship between ethical sensitivity (the perception that a situation requires ethical consideration), and personality type, as characterized by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). A simple random sampling from the membership of the National Contract Management Association yielded 466 responses. The sample was analyzed by segmentation into government (181) and industry (285) respondents. The average ethical sensitivity response of 5.28 out of seven is considered high. Differences in perceptions of ethical sensitivity were significant among government and industry, and among ten scenarios often faced by contracting professionals. In the majority of scenarios, the government segment reported …

A Comparative Analysis Of Organisation Health-Care Machinery In Hospital: Doctoral Dissertation Abstract, J P Sahu Jun 1992

A Comparative Analysis Of Organisation Health-Care Machinery In Hospital: Doctoral Dissertation Abstract, J P Sahu

IIMB Management Review

Health Care Services are significant in providing social justice and equal life opportunities to individuals in the society. The health care system of today, is evoking criticism from various corners, for its rising costs due to introduction of expensive sophisticated technology, maldistribution, dehumanisation and heavy bureaucratisation, etc. This is particularly true for the developing countries where on one hand, increasing population and ever changing disease patterns (due to developing activities like agriculture, irrigation, mining and industrialisation, etc.) and growing expectations of the people (due to increase in education and communication) on the other, exert further pressure on the limited health …

Having Friends In High Places: The Effects Of Structural Characteristics Of Mentoring Dyads On Protégé Career Outcomes, Terri A. Scandura Phd, Chester A. Schriesheim Jan 1992

Having Friends In High Places: The Effects Of Structural Characteristics Of Mentoring Dyads On Protégé Career Outcomes, Terri A. Scandura Phd, Chester A. Schriesheim

Management Faculty Articles and Papers

Three structural characteristics of mentoring dyads (the mentor’s hierarchical level, duration of the mentoring relationship, and how long the protégé has been without a mentor) were proposed as having main and possibly interactive effects with three mentoring functions (social support, career coaching, and role modeling) on five protégé outcome variables (career expectations, commitment to the firm, number of hours worked during peak season, number of direct reports supervised, and current annual salary). Data from a sample of Certified Public Accountants (CPAs; N=786) were employed to first assess the distinctiveness of the proposed three mentoring functions by maximum likelihood confirmatory factor …

Nothing Recedes Like Success - Risk Analysis And The Organizational Amplification Of Risks, William R. Freudenburg Jan 1992

Nothing Recedes Like Success - Risk Analysis And The Organizational Amplification Of Risks, William R. Freudenburg

RISK: Health, Safety & Environment (1990-2002)

Professor Freudenburg believes that there is room for improvement in Risk analysis, particularly in drawing on systematic studies of human behavior in the calculation of real, empirical probabilities of failure. The need is argued to be especially acute where technological Risks are associated with low expected probabilities of failure and are managed by human organizations for extended periods of time. This permits complacency to set in.

As American Companies Approach The 21st Century, They Should Begin To Recognize Employee Empowerment As A Key Motivator To Increase Worker Productivity In A Highly Competitive Global Economy, Sherry L. Valliere

Theses

This thesis will focus on the study of the effectiveness of previous efforts by American companies to create a truly empowered workplace.

Employee empowerment is when employees are given the necessary authority to make decisions and initiate improvement actions within their own work areas and expertise. Employees are encouraged, through respect and trust, to exercise self-direction and self-discipline.

American companies are facing the prospect of massive changes in the basic culture that underlies how they do business. Their markets are changing and global competitors have caught them off guard, forcing them to change the way they do business to survive. …

Xinyong Or How To Trust Trust? Chinese Non-Contractual Business Relations And Social Structure :The Singapore Case, Thomas Menkhoff Jan 1992

Xinyong Or How To Trust Trust? Chinese Non-Contractual Business Relations And Social Structure :The Singapore Case, Thomas Menkhoff

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

One key for an understanding of Chinese economic behaviour in Singapore, Hong Kong or Malaysia is tmst - a term which has not been thoroughly dealt with in contemporary studies. With reference to the Chinese business community in Chinese-dominated Singapore and sociological concepts of trust, the article aims at analyzing the different levels of meaning of the trust mechanism (Chinese: xinyong) which is seen as essential lubricant in Chinese personalistic and non-contractual business relations. But trust in itself is no guarantee of cooperative behaviour. To enable interpersonal trust as precommitment and basis of local or international trading networks and commercial …
