Competition And Price Wars In The U.S. Brewing Industry, Jayendra Gokhale, Victor J. Tremblay
Competition And Price Wars In The U.S. Brewing Industry, Jayendra Gokhale, Victor J. Tremblay
Accounting, Economics, Finance, and Information Sciences - Daytona Beach
The behavior of the macro or mass-production segment of the U.S. brewing industry appears to be paradoxical. Since the end of Prohibition in 1934, the number of independent brewer has continuously declined while the major national brewers, such as Anheuser-Busch, Miller, and Coors, have gained market share. In spite of this decline in the number of competitors, profits and market power have remained low in brewing. Iwasaki et al. (2008) explain this result by providing evidence that changes in marketing and production technologies favored larger brewers and forced the industry into a war of attrition, in which only a handful …

Mobile Marketing At Telenor: A Mad Strategy?, Yasmin Malik
International Conference on Marketing
In early 2010, Telenor Pakistan became the first local mobile network operator to implement a comprehensive mobile marketing strategy in a market where the true potential for mobile marketing was still nascent and misunderstood by both consumers and brands alike. This case study is the first documented study on how Operator-driven mobile marketing via opt-in based consumer profiling can enable and drive the development of a mobile marketing eco-system in Pakistan - in addition the case study also examines the positioning of the Operator in the mobile marketing value chain.
On Shelf Availability: A Literature Review & Conceptual Framework, Kristie Spielmaker
On Shelf Availability: A Literature Review & Conceptual Framework, Kristie Spielmaker
Marketing Undergraduate Honors Theses
On-Shelf Availability (OSA) is a key performance indicator for the retail industry, greatly impacting profit and customer loyalty. Strong competition in the industry causes retailers and suppliers to put heavy emphasis on improving performance in an effort to satisfy consumers and keep them coming back to their store or product. Over 40 years of research has been done on OSA and its complement, out-of stock (OOS), however very little progress has been made in improving performance in these areas, leading to the belief that gaps in extant research exist. In order to solve the OOS problem, the key drivers of …

An Examination Of The Interfaces Between Operations And Advertising Strategies, Abdullahel Bari
Doctoral Dissertations
This dissertation is composed of three journals examining the interfaces between the marketing variable of advertising and various aspects of the operations function of the enterprise, namely, (1) production cost [Chapter 2], (2) inventory control [Chapter 3], and (3) service cost learning [Chapter 4]. The first journal identified the optimum advertising allocation policy over time in the presence of a quadratic convex/concave production cost function when the advertising response function is concave using a modified Vidale-Wolfe model. Through analytical proofs and numerical simulations, the results indicated the potential superiority of a pulsation policy in the presence of concavity in the …

Marketing and Management Faculty Proceedings & Presentations
It was the morning of Wednesday, November 14, 2007. The article on the front page of the New York Times Business Section read “‘Seaweed’ Clothing Has None, Tests Show.” The story asserted that one of Lululemon’s product lines, VitaSea, which purported to contain a seaweed fiber designed to release marine amino acids, minerals and vitamins into the skin upon contact with moisture, contained no such ingredient. Both Chip Wilson, Chairman and Founder of athletic wear retailer Lululemon, and Robert Meers, Lululemon’s CEO, were about to embark on their first damage-control mission since the company’s Initial Public Offering in July. Optimal Lot-Sizing, Pricing, And Product Intergenerational Lifestyle Decisions For The Case Of Disruptive Innovations In Fashion, Ryan Samuel Sale
Doctoral Dissertations
The objective of this dissertation is to determine production schedules, production quantities, selling prices, and new product introduction timing to fulfill deterministic price-dependent demand for a series of products in such a way as to maximize profit per period.
In order to accomplish the above task, some main assumptions are made. First, it is assumed that the series of products being considered are associated with sequential non-disruptive innovations in technology as well as disruptive innovations in fashion. That is to say, the products represent subsequent generations in the same family of products in an industry that experiences repeated minor technological …

Inquiry: The University of Arkansas Undergraduate Research Journal
In this study, the researchers developed a survey asking students what topics were most desired, what the ideal format of the program would be, and what would motivate students to participate. Each of these questions allowed participants to rank options within topics, formats and motivators. The survey also collected demographic information concerning age, gender, university classification, and specific college so that the researchers could analyze the needs of different groups on campus. A total of 397 students participated. To analyze the data, the rankings were summed to create an aggregate ranking for each question. The demographic information was used in …
A Framework For Supplier Relationship Management (Srm), Sabine Moeller, Martin Fassnacht, Sonja Klose
A Framework For Supplier Relationship Management (Srm), Sabine Moeller, Martin Fassnacht, Sonja Klose
Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business
We perceive growing expectations concerning the impact of the purchasing function and the suppliers on overall value creation of a firm. Purchasing is the gateway between the external suppliers and the internal functions creating and delivering value for customers. This shift has incredibly enhanced the importance of the supplier base. While the old arm length collaboration is perfectly suitable for some suppliers others should be treated as close partners. However, an overall framework of Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) integrating such different types of suppliers along the course of the relationship remains desirable. Our research aims to contribute by developing a …

We address the problem of determining the optimal retailer order quantities from a manufacturer who makes new products in conjunction with ordering remanufactured products from a remanufacturer using used and unsold products from the previous product generation. Specifically, we determine the optimal order quantity by the retailer for four systems of decision-making: (a) the three firms make their decisions in a coordinated fashion, (b) the retailer acts independently while the manufacturer and remanufacturer coordinate their decisions, (c) the remanufacturer acts independently while the retailer and manufacturer coordinate their decisions, and (d) all three firms act independently. We model the four …

Almonds Western Australia, Andrew Quinn, David Pocock
Horticulture published reports
The Almond industry 1s one of the less explored new industry options in Western Australia, despite offering one of the more significant opportunities for expansion and market development. Previous attempts to expand the industry have met with little progress primarily because of the small orchard areas planted, limited economies of scale, significant impact by birds and absence of a local processing plant.
Global Almond exports exceed US$1 billion per annum and are dominated by California. Almond products are traded in the international commodity market with prices primarily set by the USA.

Horticulture published reports
Faced with a rising water-table, salt and acid land impacts, the Western Australian Wheatbelt requires significant changes to traditional farming system models.
Part of this drive towards improved sustainability is the need to re-plant substantial areas to tree belts or blocks. One of the limiting factors in the widescale adoption of on-farm tree planting is the narrow range of opportunities to generate income from these sites.
This report presents a model for the development of a Pistachio nut industry with production integrated into existing Wheatbelt farming systems. In addition to offering significant environmental benefits, the Pistachio tree offers the opportunity …

Yield Management In The Airline Industry, B Venkateshwara Rao
Yield Management In The Airline Industry, B Venkateshwara Rao
IIMB Management Review
The Airline Deregulation Act of 1978 changed the competitive landscape for air travel. The CAB allowed low-cost (nonunionised and no-frill chartered service) carriers to compete in the scheduled air travel markets. Scheduled air carriers were at a disadvantage due to their high-cost structure. For example, during the winter of 1976, passengers could travel from New York to Florida on a charter for as little as $99. This fare was less than the average cost for a scheduled carrier to fly that market.

Since the late 1980s, the wholesale industry has been experiencing turbulence, What With the growth in direct buying programmes and rising imports that often bypass domestic Wholesalers and directly approach the retail shelves. Many wholesalers are gradually defining their roles as being in the marketing support business and not merely in the distnbution business. They are realising that their primary purpose is to help both suppliers and customers develop effective marketing programmes and there by remain an essential link in the channel.
