Facilitators And Inhibitors Of Supply Chain Innovation-Prospects For Supply Chain Managment In The Irish Grocery Sector, Joan Keegan, Edmund O'Callaghan, Mary Wilcox

Articles

Supply chain management is one of the most significant strategic challenges currently facing the Irish grocery sector. The UK grocery market with its emphasis on composite deliveries via regional distribution centres is extremely sophisticated; the Irish grocery sector, however, is in the embryonic stage of implementing central distribution. The potential to develop innovative supply chain systems is mediated by both national logistic-related variables and company characteristics. In addition to competitor activity and market forces, drivers and inhibitors such as economic growth, consumer preferences, the regulatory environment and physical and technological infrastructure influence the evolution of supply chain systems. This paper …

Sales and other marketing professionals were compared in terms of some of their demographic, socioeconomic, and psychographic characteristics. It was generally expected that sates professionals would be different from the other marketing professionals in the sample. Regarding demographic and socioeconomic characteristics, more sales than other marketing professionals were male and they were less affluent. They also had fewer years of business experience. Forming Strategic Alliances: Issues In Conceptualisation, Nagasimha Balakrishna Kanagal Dec 1999

Forming Strategic Alliances: Issues In Conceptualisation, Nagasimha Balakrishna Kanagal

IIMB Management Review

The interactive and interdependent economy of the present day is rooted in exchanges or 'give and take' of varying complexity. The process of conceptualising, planning and executing exchanges to the benefit of all players involved is basic to marketing. Given the three generic forms of economic organisation - market, hybrid and hierarchy, organisational expansions in high technology markets in recent times have witnessed the emergence of hybrid strategic alliances as an alternative to markets and hierarchies. Strategic alliances enable functional integration in inter-firm relationships involving tangible and intangible exchanges. Rapid technological innovations and technological complexity, and forces such as uncertainty, …

Managing Change Towards Service Excellence: Sds A Case Study, Jean Gorman

Masters

In a business environment where change is the only constant, companies must direct their attention to activities that will make their offerings excellent. The attainment of service excellence is a very prominent theme in the literature on services marketing. However, while the benefits of programs to achieve this status are unquestionable, there are in fact very few service companies that are regarded as excellent in the market place. Therefore the main objective is to determine how a company manages the activities towards achieving service excellence. The foundations of the primary research lie in both the literature on change management and …

The business of tertiary education has become more and more competitive in recent years due to reductions in government funding and higher study fees. As the nature of the environment grows more competitive the role of marketing, previously non-existent in most universities, has grown significantly. One of the key pieces of information that would assist the marketing effort of any university is an understanding of what determines university preference. This study examines university preference in Western Australia. A form of conjoint analysis, known as Adaptive Conjoint Analysis (ACA), was used to investigate the relative importance of a number of attributes …

Males and females may apply different criteria to make tourism destination choices. Respondents were asked to rank eight popular WA holiday destinations, using twelve attributes. Comparisons between males and females were conducted using t-tests, perceptual mapping and external preference analysis. Females rated each attribute consistently more important than males and, overall, consistently high. New Paradigms In Marketing, M J Xavier Oct 1998

New Paradigms In Marketing, M J Xavier

IIMB Management Review

Though companies today are getting more customer focused and market driven, marketing departments seem to be relegated to the background. The four Ps, long considered the universal marketing approach, now seem inadequate. The advent of the quality movement, the emergence of services marketing, the developments in strategic marketing and business to business marketing have added new dimensions to marketing. In order to regain their rightful place in organisations, Xavier urges marketers to reorient themselves to the customer, develop a cross functional perspective and a deeper understanding of company competencies.

Market Orientation And Organizational Performance: Is Innovation A Missing Link?, Jin K. Han, Namwoon Kim, Rajendra K. Srivastava

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

In recent years, a market-oriented corporate culture increasingly has been considered a key element of superior corporate performance. Although organizational innovativeness is believed to be a potential mediator of this market orientation - corporate performance relationship, much of the evidence to date remains anecdotal or speculative. In this context, a systematic framework is presented to test the postulated market orientation-innovation-performance chain. To this end, the direct causality assumption of market orientation on organizational performance is examined with Narver and Slater's (1990) market orientation framework. Moreover, a componentwise approach is taken, and an examination is conducted of how the 3 core …

It's Not What You Make, It's The Way That You Say It: Reflections On The Design-Marketing Interface, Paul O'Sullivan

Articles

Good design is a cornerstone of marketing. Design is an important variable in every aspect of marketing activities- products, processes, packaging and communications. Yet this topic attracts little attention in the marketing literature and there is, one suspects, very little cross-fertilisation between marketing and design disciplines. This paper puts design on the agenda for both marketing academics and practitioners as well as providing a review of what is embraced within the broad subject of design. Some observations on the history and role of design in an Irish context are offered also.

The Effects Of Organizational And Individual Learning On Job Satisfaction And Organizational Commitment, David Lee Wright

The objective of this dissertation was to assess how certain organizational-level and individual-level factors affect member job attitudes. Specifically, market orientation and organizational learning, contingent on the individual's orientation toward learning, were examined as potential predictors of job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Individual performance of employees affects organizational performance. Consequently, these organizational and individual factors are significant to management because of their potential influence on the attitudes of employees.

A national sample consisting of sales and marketing executives made up the sample frame. A self-report questionnaire was mailed to 2000 randomly selected potential respondents. The return of 213 usable questionnaires …
