Local college students who are aspiring podcasters can compete for their podcast to be showcased nationally in the third annual “College Podcast Challenge,” hosted by NPR.

The competition is open for submissions until Jan 5, 2024. As in years past, the challenge is the same: produce a podcast between three and eight minutes on a topic, issue or story of your choosing. The winner will receive a $5,000 scholarship and $500 will be awarded to finalists. The grand prize winner and finalists will be notified in February 2024.

This paper proposes that Benford’s Law is an effective tool for determining futures market irregularities and therefore should be adopted and used in efforts to detect and prevent manipulation in the agriculture commodities futures market. Market manipulation, while hard to define and even harder to detect and prevent, has long been a concern for traders and regulators alike. During its quarterly meeting held earlier today, East Tennessee State University’s Board of Trustees approved the largest pay increase for employees in the university’s modern history. This includes raising the university’s starting hourly wage for full-time, benefits-eligible employees to at least $13.65, a 19.3 percent increase over the current starting rate of $11.44.

The starting wages for employees of ETSU’s Quillen College of Medicine and Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy will be at least $15 per hour. Additionally, full-time, benefits-eligible employees will receive a 4.5 percent increase, capped at $7,500 per person. The $7,500 maximum does not apply to employees …

A top natural products research scientist from Colombia visited East Tennessee State University Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy recently to meet with student pharmacists and help demonstrate the drug discovery process.

Dr. Ruben Torrenegra, who was recognized in 2018 by the government of Colombia as one of its top scientists, has helped progress the college’s drug discovery program since 2008 when he partnered with Dr. Victoria Palau, professor emerita of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The rink is located on the ETSU University Commons, adjacent to the D.P Culp Student Center.
