The objective of this study was to examine nutrient claims signage on the purchasing of snacks in corporate foodservice operations. The effectiveness of claims among foodservice operations serving primarily administrative roles (white-collar) were compared with those serving primarily manufacturing roles (blue-collar). An experimental study was conducted through the implementation of six nutrient claims evaluated by a group of registered dietitians. The snack items were conveniently placed near the cash register to “nudge” purchases, and sales of snacks before and after the implementation of claims were examined. Paired-samples t-tests indicated that after nutrient claims were implemented, sales of snacks increased …

Does Microcredit Reduce Poverty? An Empirical Exploration In India, Aneel Karnani, Seema Sahai
Markets, Globalization & Development Review
Microcredit has grown dramatically over the last few decades and its supporters have made extravagant promises about its potential impact on reducing poverty. However, much recent research has shown that microcredit has no significant impact on reducing poverty. In this exploratory study we interview 205 clients of for-profit microcredit to better understand the causes of why microcredit has not lived up to its promise. We find the basic problem is that the lending policies of the microcredit organizations are designed to lower the costs and risks, and hence increase the profits of the organization, and are not responsive to the …

This paper aims to provide some evidence of the value of the Islamic banking system and why the current non-Islamic systems should implement certain aspects of the Islamic finance system. To make this claim, I rely on secondary research data to support my arguments. Islamic banking has experienced rapid global growth. This paper uses the United Arab of Emirates as the scope of this research because both banking systems have operated in the UAE for several years. Therefore, existing data and statistics from …
