Do Animated Line Graphs Increase Risk Inferences?, Junghan Kim, Arun Lakshmanan

This article shows that animated display of time-varying data (e.g., stock or commodity prices) enhances risk judgments. We outline a process whereby animated display enhances the visual salience of transitions in a trajectory (i.e., successive changes in data values), which leads to transitions being utilized more to form cognitive inferences about risk. In turn, this leads to inflated risk judgments. The main objective of this study is to understand and evaluate whether COVID responses have a significant positive impact on brand performance. JOHNSON CITY (May 27, 2021) — For almost a decade, groups of East Tennessee State University business student volunteers have offered free tax preparation assistance through the Internal Revenue Service Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. This year, having dealt with limitations brought on by COVID-19, the program has concluded for the season with a total of 95 tax returns filed, according to accountancy faculty member Dr. Michelle Freeman. Nicely, a resident of Atlanta at the time of his death, served as the Reece Museum’s artist-in-residence during the 2014-2015 academic year. Lady Luck: Anthropomorphized Luck Creates Perceptions Of Risk-Sharing And Drives Pursuit Of Risky Alternatives, Katina Kulow, Thomas Kramer, Kara Bentley

We examine decision-making under risk as a function of the degree to which consumers anthropomorphize their luck. We propose that consumers make riskier financial decisions when they anthropomorphize (vs. objectify) their luck and that this effect occurs because humanizing luck engenders a perceived sharing of risk in the presence of “lady luck.” A series of experiments shows that consumers among whom anthropomorphized versus objectified luck is salient display greater risk-taking in financial, but not social, decisions. These effects are heightened among consumers who frequently engage in risky decision-making and are driven by perceptions of risk-sharing produced by anthropomorphized luck. Collectively, …

Originally from Knoxville, Tennessee, Crocker majored in marine science and minored in French at the University of South Carolina.
