The Status Of Women In Utah Politics, Susan R. Madsen, D. Candice Backus

Marketing and Strategy Faculty Publications

The Center for American Progress recently released a report titled, “The State of Women in America: A 50-State Analysis of How Women Are Faring Across the Nation.” This September 2013 document ranked Utah last in terms of women being in positions of decision making and leadership. The focus was on both the percentage of women in elected office (state and national levels) and also women holding private sector management positions, but it did not provide the depth needed to fully understand the issue. To provide leaders and residents with more detailed research, four 2014 briefs will be released that compare …

The present research offers marketing strategies to alleviate risk and build trust, with a particular focus on emerging online fashion brands. The study examines how familiar cues such as store name and brand origin can be used to construct a perception of quality around an unfamiliar brand in order to alleviate risk and build trust. Community Preparatory School: Alumni Relations Plan, Arnold Robinson

Marketing and Communications

When trying to get people to understand your message, you can use the Uses and Gratifications theory which talks about how people tend to pay attention when they are entertained, informed, their opinions get reinforced and they have a sense of belonging. Our message will get people to pay attention because the Alumni already have a sense of belonging to CPS, and it informs and reinforces their opinions about caring for their Alma mater. We will get Alumni to believe this message by holding events and other activities in which they can be a part of.

Imaginary Worlds: Using Visual Network Scales To Capture Perceptions Of Social Networks, Ajay Mehra, Stephen P. Borgatti, Scott M. Soltis, Theresa M. Floyd, Daniel S. Halgin, Brandon Ofem, Virginie Lopez-Kidwell

Management and Marketing Faculty Publications

Social networks are not just patterns of interaction and sentiment in the real world; they are also cognitive (re)constructions of social relations, some real, some imagined. Focusing on networks as mental entities, our essay describes a new method that relies on stylized network images to gather quantitative data on how people “see” specific aspects of their social worlds. We discuss the logic of our approach, present several examples of “visual network scales,” discuss some preliminary findings, and identify some of the problems and prospects in this nascent line of work on the phenomenology of social networks.

Business education needs to reflect this new reality and provide a broadened understanding of value creation in order to create …

The Store-As-A-Brand Strategy: The Effect Of Store Environment On Customer Responses, Archana Kumar, Youn Kyung Kim

Department of Marketing Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

Despite their significance within the apparel industry, retailers selling just their own brand of apparel (single-brand apparel retailers) have not been examined for the relationship between their store environment and customer responses. This study explores the effect of store environment on customers' internal evaluations and behavior toward single-brand apparel retailers. Further, to understand the store-as-a-brand strategy, this study examined whether customers have similar cognitive and affective perceptions toward the store versus merchandise. A mall intercept survey was conducted and a non-recursive structural equation model was employed to test the proposed hypotheses. This study found that social, design, and ambient cues …
