Hospitality Loyalty Program Effectiveness Evaluation Rubric, Nazia Charania

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

This paper examines the various loyalty program strategies and design elements utilized within the hospitality industry and evaluates the implications of the various strategies on establishing and fostering loyalty among consumers within a hyper competitive industry. In order to maintain competitive parity, many programs have constantly lowered reward thresholds and increased program offerings, making such programs very costly and with little direct evaluation in their ability to stimulate true loyalty. In a society bombarded by loyalty programs in almost all industries, consumers are becoming very savvy in comparing their personal rewards to the effort and inconveniences incurred by enrolling. The …

Co-Creation Of Value: Creating New Products Through Social Media, Birud Sindhav

Marketing and Management Faculty Publications

Co-creation of value with consumers is an emerging marketing paradigm for the firms. One way to understand co-creation of value is to examine co-creation of value at the new product development (NPD) stage, when consumer has yet to interact with the fully formed product. We first describe the emergence of social media as an evolution of the social nature of the web. Then we describe social validation, social information, and social inspiration as three processes that help explain why consumers like to be part of co-creation at the NPD stage. Finally, we describe two stages of NPD in the context …

The Great Recession And Its Effect On Small Businesses And Unemployment Rates, Alyssa Sharples

Honors Theses

The 2007 financial crisis, otherwise known as the "Great Recession," has impacted the economy tremendously in the past three years. Businesses have been drastically impacted, as have the lives of workers in the United States. Many articles have been published about different aspects of the recession. One question that has not been completely addressed is how the Great Recession has affected small businesses and unemployment rates. The reason for addressing these two topics is because they are closely related to one another. Small business owners are reporting that there has been a decline in sales. Consumers are not willing to …

The Psychology And Behavior Of Consumers In The Fashion Industry, Jessica Delace May 2011

The Psychology And Behavior Of Consumers In The Fashion Industry, Jessica Delace

Senior Honors Projects

I have always been interested in all aspects of the fashion industry, from apparel production to retail sales. After interning in the sales department of a New York based designer, I became fascinated by the customers who spent over $10,000 to revamp their wardrobe every season. Were these women buying their clothes based on their own preferences, or did they buy the original $3,000 design to fit their lifestyle as a New York City socialite?

After completing a literature review on the psychology of apparel consumers, I wanted to determine if shoppers’ preferences were based on their own opinions, or …

Do Marketing Media Have Life Cycles? The Case Of Product Placement In Movies, Ekaterina Karniouchina, Can Uslay, Grigori Erenburg May 2011

Do Marketing Media Have Life Cycles? The Case Of Product Placement In Movies, Ekaterina Karniouchina, Can Uslay, Grigori Erenburg

Business Faculty Articles and Research

This article examines the economic worth of product placement in movies over a time span of 40 years (1968-2007). The authors find an inverted U-shaped relationship between the year of the movie release and the returns associated with product placements. In addition, a similar inverted U-shaped relationship characterizes the economic worth of tie-in campaigns associated with product placements. These findings are consistent with the habituation tedium theory used to explain the inverted U-shaped pattern in response to novel advertisements and suggest that the same mechanism could be influencing the response to an entire marketing medium. Overall, the results reinforce the …

One hundred and ten students, staff and faculty were asked to look at a constructed store aisle and purchase both a box of tissues and stick of deodorant and complete a questionnaire responding to questions regarding their decision choice. Evaluation Of Advertisements The Role Of Males' Self-Image And Its Effect On Attitude Toward Advertisements, Ashley N. Carrel

HIM 1990-2015

As consumers, we are bombarded daily with companies advertising their products and services. A growing concern is the unethical use of partially-clothed or nude models and their effects on consumers who often are not even actively searching for information about these products or services. No matter the ethical implications many companies choose this method of promoting their products to the general population. Much research has been done to study the effects that these risqué images have on consumers' self-image and feelings, most commonly though, on females. This research focuses on males as consumers and their attitudes towards advertisements and how …

An Empirical Investigation Of Consumer Resistance To Green Product Innovation, Marius Claudy May 2011

An Empirical Investigation Of Consumer Resistance To Green Product Innovation, Marius Claudy

Doctoral

Responding to the sustainability imperative has emerged as a key challenge and opportunity for businesses. Developing and marketing innovative ―green‖ products in particular can be a vital strategy for businesses to increase productivity, develop new markets, improve corporate image and ultimately attain competitive advantage. But despite consumer sensitisation towards environmental issues, many sustainable products face slow rates of diffusion in mainstream markets as consumers‘ green preferences regularly fail to translate into adoption behaviour. In this thesis we take a consumer resistance perspective to investigate empirically the so-called attitude–behaviour gap in the context of green product innovation. The aim of this …

In Spring 2010, this number increased to 127 Latino students out of 6,292 total students; this is notable as in a typical spring semester, the number of students at the college decreases from the fall semester (Hawkeye, 2010). Lots of studies have been focusing on the consumer goods market. Relatively few studies have been focused on industrial market. In the industrial goods market subcontractors used to sell their parts or services only to a small number of parent companies in a large quantity, resulting in decisive control of subcontractors over the quality of parent companies` finished goods. This is why relationship between subcontractors and …

This study develops and tests a subjective measure of quality of city life (QCL) in the context of a large metropolitan city.
