JOHNSON CITY – East Tennessee State University’s Interprofessional Education and Research Center, also known as Building 60, on the Veterans Affairs Medical Center Campus will now be called “Bishop Hall” in honor of longtime administrator Dr. Wilsie S. Bishop, senior vice president for academic and interim provost. Bishop is retiring on June 30, 2021, after 43 years of service at ETSU.

The ETSU Board of Trustees convened a special called meeting earlier today (Tuesday, June 15, 2021) to consider and take action on a series of agenda items. Given the significance of these announcements, I want to provide a brief summary update to members of the university community.
- Salary enhancements: I am pleased to announce that the Board of Trustees endorsed a one-time bonus of $500 for all regular, non-temporary employees who were employed during the period of April 1-May 30, 2021. The bonus will be reflected in your June 30 paychecks.

JOHNSON CITY (May 27, 2021) — For almost a decade, groups of East Tennessee State University business student volunteers have offered free tax preparation assistance through the Internal Revenue Service Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. This year, having dealt with limitations brought on by COVID-19, the program has concluded for the season with a total of 95 tax returns filed, according to accountancy faculty member Dr. Michelle Freeman. In all, eight students, two alumni, one support staff, and three professors helped make the process happen.

JOHNSON CITY (May 25, 2021) – ETSU Health will host several upcoming Janssen Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine clinics. This single-dose vaccine is free and available to anyone age 18 and older. No appointments are required.
The upcoming clinics are as follows:

JOHNSON CITY (May 25, 2021) – East Tennessee State University’s Reece Museum recently received a donation of 50 artworks from the Sammie L. Nicely estate.
Nicely, a resident of Atlanta at the time of his death, served as the Reece Museum’s artist-in-residence during the 2014-2015 academic year. That year, he worked with youth at Johnson City’s North Side Elementary School, the Carver Recreation Center after-school program, and students in the Department of Art and Design at ETSU.

JOHNSON CITY (May 24, 2021) – At its spring commission meeting on May 20, the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) granted final approval for three new academic programs at East Tennessee State University as well as an off-campus instruction location in Chattanooga.

(May 13, 2021) Cori Crocker is part of the growing and supportive Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (RPCV) community at East Tennessee State University’s College of Public Health.
Originally from Knoxville, Tennessee, Crocker majored in marine science and minored in French at the University of South Carolina. When she graduated, she began looking for opportunities that married these two interests and decided to join the Peace Corps as a secondary-education volunteer in the West African country of Guinea.

JOHNSON CITY (May 6, 2021) – Seventy-three medical students received their doctoral hoods and took the Hippocratic Oath as new physicians at East Tennessee State University’s Quillen College of Medicine Commencement ceremony held on Thursday, May 6.
