Hargett presented ETSU with an award for work completed during National Voter’s Registration Month in September 2022.

JOHNSON CITY - East Tennessee State University has won an important Federal Emergency Management Agency grant, the second such award in the last six months. 

ETSU is the only university in the state to receive the FEMA grant, worth $160,000 and is part of the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities program.

JOHNSON CITY – David Crockett High School graduate Evan Alvarado initially planned for a career in nursing.  

But after taking a course at East Tennessee State University about wildland firefighting, he had a change of heart.

“The day the class ended, I immediately changed my major to park and recreation management,” he said. “It has been fantastic, and I haven’t looked back.”

JOHNSON CITY – Earlier this month, students from East Tennessee State University participated in the 22nd annual Appalachian Teaching Project (ATP) Symposium. A new annual tradition, this year’s ornament features Gilbreath Hall – the building where it all began in 1911 in what was then East Tennessee State Normal School. JOHNSON CITY – Like it or not, the official start to winter is only a few days away.

And for the third straight season, winter will be characterized by the La Niña pattern. That likely means higher-than-normal temperatures for much of the Appalachian Highlands and above average precipitation, according to East Tennessee State University.
