Fixing Advising: A Model For Faculty Advising, Robert M. Crocker, Marlene Kahla, Charlotte Allen
Faculty Publications
This paper addresses mandates to fix the advising process with a focus on faculty advising systems. Measures of student success and satisfaction, administrative issues, and faculty concerns are among the many factors discussed. Regression analysis is used to explore long-voiced faculty complaints that students do not follow advice. A case study is used to illustrate changes in one department’s advising process and measures of student satisfaction are reported. A model of advising components is offered to illustrate practices suggested to realize the full potential of the advising process.

JOHNSON CITY Dr. Sarah Melton, a professor of pharmacy practice in the Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy at East Tennessee State University, has been awarded a national honor for her work related to prescription drug abuse.
The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) recently honored Melton with the Generation Rx Award of Excellence, an award that recognizes a pharmacist who has demonstrated a commitment to the mission of substance abuse education.
In receiving the honor, Melton was recognized for her 20 years of dedication to fighting the prescription drug abuse and opioid addiction epidemic in Appalachia.

JOHNSON CITY Dr. Brian Cross, an associate professor with the East Tennessee State University College of Pharmacy, and Dr. Reid Blackwelder, a professor with ETSUs Quillen College of Medicine, recently were featured in an issue of Pharmacy Today magazine.
The article showcased in the American Pharmacists Association publication tells the story of the pairs physician-pharmacist collaboration at ETSU Family Physicians.
Blackwelder told the magazine that the clinics have worked hard to foster a collaborative culture where everybody has a voice. Were all there to make our patients get the best outcomes.
