ABSTRACT

The current generation of undergraduate students in the classroom (Gen Z) is the loneliest generation in the U.S. (Twenge, 2017), and they know it. What are they spending time on? Their phones. What are they not spending time on? Time with friends (Twenge, 2017). Gen Z has more of a life online versus offline, yet Gen Z yearns for in-person interaction, and the pandemic has only made it worse. The authors’ advice? Tell a joke. By combining theories from psychology, management, and marketing, this conceptual paper explores the relationship between humor, trust, and persuasion.

(March 7, 2023) – Students interested in learning more about the pharmacy profession can attend the GattonRx Summer Camp at East Tennessee State University Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy, an overnight camp on June 5-9. Registration is $200, and the deadline to apply is April 10. Scholarships are available for students who currently receive free or reduced school lunches or need assistance.

When East Tennessee State University (ETSU) Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy alumnus Hayden Stanton (’22), PharmD, MBA, went to work at Food City Pharmacy in early December, it was just another day in the life of a community pharmacist: verifying prescriptions, giving vaccinations, and counseling patients to aid in taking medications effectively.

And the winner is … the Carillon sunrise design!

ETSU students chose a new ID card design last week through an online vote. Out of five options featuring campus and regional landmarks, students selected a design that combined both, with a silhouette of the ETSU Foundation Carillon in the foreground on the right, with the golden sun rising over blue mountains in the background.

Out of 3,052 total votes, the winning design received 1,221 votes, followed by the second-place design – an abstract depiction of the Southern Appalachian mountains – with 828 votes.

ETSU students won the Tennessee TRIO Upward Bound Scholars Bowl and will now represent the state in the Southeastern Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel in late April. JOHNSON CITY – Members of the Class of 2023 at East Tennessee State University’s Quillen College of Medicine found out today where they were matched for their residencies, which they will begin this summer following their graduation in May.

The National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) pairs graduating medical students with residency programs throughout the country. The Class of 2023 had a 100% match rate, the second-straight year Quillen graduates have enjoyed a 100% match rate. Graduates matched into 15 specialties in 20 states and the District of Columbia.

The leadership textbook titled “Visionary Leadership in Healthcare: Excellence in Practice, Policy, and Ethics” was the first-place winner in in AJN’ “Nursing Management and Leadership” category.
