Technology is widely recognized as an enabler of business models. When the Web appeared in the 1990s, businesses redesigned the ways in which they interacted with their customers. They became global, rather than local, and the world represented an expanded customer base. While the Web has become a fact of life since the 1990s, technology has not lost its ability to introduce new ways of enabling organizations to provide and create value for their customers, as new and inventive ways of interacting with customers continue to appear.

While there is a general perception that supply chain visibility is driven by information sharing and enabling information technologies, there are gaps in our understanding of what constitutes supply chain visibility and the specific information technology configurations that may be implemented for enabling visibility. This manuscript presents a possible framework for conceptualizing information sharing needs and mechanisms that need to be enabled using information technologies in the pursuit of supply chain visibility. A multiple case study approach is proposed for examining the ways in which real-world organizations embedded in …

Computational Thinking (CT) has been described as a universally applicable ability such as reading and writing. In this paper, we describe an innovative pedagogy using Rapid Digital Game Creation (RDGC) for learning CT skills. RDGC involves the rapid building of digital games with high-level software that requires little or no programming knowledge. We analyze how RDGC supports various CT concepts and how it may be mapped to equivalent Java concepts by building the same game using both RDGC and Java. We discuss the potential benefits of this approach for attracting computing majors, as a precursor to learning formal programming languages, …

The success of information systems in healthcare contexts is becoming increasingly important as the healthcare profession continues to adopt information systems for its internal operations. Using the DeLone and McLean model of information systems success that has found traction in a variety of research contexts, we develop a model for examining the success of clinician information systems. Our research model, while grounded in prior literature on information systems success, also benefits from insights gained from preliminary interviews and surveys of healthcare professionals and clinicians. The pilot round of data collection is planned for next month and actual data collection for …

This article presents a declarative query language, Document SQL (DSQL) that has the same look and feel as SQL and was designed by updating the semantics of SQL operations in the structured document domain. At the same time, DSQL was designed such that all queries written in it have equivalent counterparts in XQuery. Thus, by using such a language, users can take advantage of their existing SQL knowledge when writing ad-hoc queries without losing the expressive power of XQuery.
