The purpose of this research was to identify the balance of management, technical and leadership responsibilities learned at each of the three USAF officer tiers. Specifically, this thesis sought to answer research questions addressing the essential learning elements for developing leadership, technical and management knowledge and skills as well as the proportional emphasis of the three areas in each of the three officer tiers. The questions were answered through a comprehensive literature review and a review of current professional military education (PME) syllabi and educational profiles of USAF officers. An Examination Of The Effects Of Communication Media On Geographically Separated Mentors And Protégés: Does Distance Matter?, Chen Yen Su

The purpose of this study was to explore and evaluate the extent to which a formal mentoring relationship could transition into an informal mentoring relationship after geographically separating a formal mentor-protégé dyad. This study also explored the moderating effects of individual effectiveness. Data were collected from 283 military graduate students attending an 18-month graduate program. The results of this research revealed protégé perceptions of mentoring effectiveness increased with the length of the relationship. Furthermore, this study found formal mentoring relationships were capable of transitioning into informal mentoring relationships.

An Assessment Of Force Protection Knowledge In Air Force Civil Engineer Officers, Dustin C. Richards

The purpose of this research was to assess force protection knowledge in Air Force civil engineer officers. Specifically, the research attempted to answer four specific research questions dealing with officers' understanding of force protection concepts and principles, effectiveness of current training, which training is effective and which needs improvement, and how officers feel about the training they receive and their ability to apply it to real world situations. The research consisted of 542 civil engineer officers taking a knowledge based survey that tested their force protection knowledge.
