However, little is known about whether this is the case in the hotel industry despite its high turnover rates. Besides, most studies have been conducted in the US, where the job embeddedness construct was developed and tested, suggesting the need to test the job embeddedness-turnover link in other contexts to improve its theoretical accuracy and generalisability. Additionally, while appropriate leader behaviours may enhance follower job embeddedness, empirical studies are sparse. Drawing from the Conservation of Resources theory, this study examines how transformational leaders may address hotel …

Leader-Member Exchange, Sarah Stepanek, Megan Paul Jun 2022

Leader-Member Exchange, Sarah Stepanek, Megan Paul

Umbrella Summaries

What is LMX?

Leader-member exchange (LMX) refers to the quality of relationship exchange formed between a leader and their subordinate (Gerstner & Day, 1997). Note that in this context, leaders may include supervisors, not just upper-level leaders such as managers or administrators. LMX theory is based on the idea that leaders develop unique relationships with each follower, and the quality of this relationship then has the power to influence various attitudes and behaviors (Illies et al., 2007). Whereas most leadership theories focus entirely on the role that a leader plays, LMX differs in that it emphasizes the dyadic nature of …

Determinants Of Country-Level Employee Overqualification: A Configurational Approach, Aleksandar Nikolovski, Robert Kaše Jun 2022

Determinants Of Country-Level Employee Overqualification: A Configurational Approach, Aleksandar Nikolovski, Robert Kaše

Economic and Business Review

We build on the configurational approach to identify patterns of macro contextual factors leading to high country-level employee overqualification. We differentiate between subjective and objective employee overqualification and establish that each is caused by different configurations of macro factors. We also identify country-level overqualification archetypes and link specific countries with respective archetypes. We find that a country’s non-vocational education system is a necessary condition for high objective overqualification, while objective overqualification itself is not a necessary condition for perceived overqualification. We discuss theoretical implications and offer policy implications.

10-Minute Ebd: Are Neoplasms A Risk Factor For Peri-Implantitis?, Farah Safieddine Bs, Naama Sleiman Ms, Phd, Melanie E. Mayberry Dds, Ms-Hcm

The Journal of the Michigan Dental Association

This 10-Minute EBD column explores the potential association between neoplasms and the risk of peri-implantitis in patients with dental implants. A case study involving a patient with a history of an ossifying fibroma raises questions about the impact of neoplasms on implant success. The literature search, conducted on PubMed, reveals relevant insights. The evidence suggests that ossifying fibromas, particularly with augmentation, may pose a risk for peri-implantitis. However, the direct causative relationship between neoplasms and peri-implant pathology remains unclear. Other risk factors such as periodontitis, foreign bodies, and augmentation procedures are also discussed in the context of implant complications.
