The need for colleges to explore alternative methods of increasing enrollment provides new opportunities and challenges in the quest to attract students. These challenges and opportunities can be addressed with the development of a Student Ambassador Program. This work presents the creation of an ambassador program consisting of current and former students who reach out to local high schools, career seminars, and industry related venues in order to both increase awareness of the program while also answering questions and being a point of contact for potential students. An Examination Of Variables Influencing Undergraduate Hospitality Management Majors' Moral Reasoning, Tamantha L. Brooks

All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Identifying factors that facilitate moral reasoning among hospitality management majors are important since it provides insight into their capacity for ethical decision making. This study examines if the variables of age, education level, gender, ethics coursework, or supervisory experience influence hospitality majors' moral reasoning. Participants (n=449) included students taking required hospitality management courses from five Midwestern universities in the United States. The Defining Issues Test II (DIT2) instrument and a demographic supplement were used to collect data. Results showed that there was no correlation between age and moral reasoning; the level of education did not influence moral reasoning; moral reasoning …

Tourism: A Soft Touch For Increased Taxation, Frank Mcmahon

This paper reviews the changes which are taking place internationally in the taxation of the tourism industry and the reasons why tourism is especially susceptible to increased taxation. It compares VAT rates in European countries and assesses the relationship between those rates and increases in international tourism receipts, concluding that there is not the direct, negative relationship which hotel associations frequently cited in their submissions to government. The canons of taxation, first devised by Adam Smith are applied to current tourism taxation: some distortions caused by taxation are identified. Americans are also becoming more diet conscious and the Select Committee on Nutrition and Human Needs (HEW) has encouraged restaurant managers to consider their impact on the nation’s health. The purpose of this study was to survey the eating-out habits and preferences of residents in three adjacent cities in southeastern Washington (Pasco, Richland, and Kennewick), and determine the potential acceptance of a natural foods restaurant in this Tri-City area. -- Method. The specific objectives of this research were to (1) develop an audiovisual self-instruction series with corresponding lectures for in-service education of hospital food service personnel, and (2) test the null hypothesis that there is no significant difference in post-test scores between the conventional lecture method and the self-instruction method.

Supportive personnel of a 516-bed, non-profit university hospital food service were randomly selected to participate in the study. An in-service education program series of five topics was developed and presented by two methods: lectures and an audiovisual self-instruction method using the 3M Sound on Slide projector.
