This project explores the need for crisis communication planning to be implemented for individual public broadcasting stations. This project will provide insight on what national public broadcasting can do to restore their image during times of crisis. Through literature, research, case studies, it is proven that having an effective crisis communication plan can help provide training, pre-determined best practices, and save time, so an organization can respond as soon as possible. This project will also discuss the publics of public broadcasting, as well as those who are more likely to donate. It will also take into account previous defunding cases …

Firm Structure And Corporate Cash Holdings, Venkat Subramaniam, Tony Tang, Heng Yue, Xin Zhou
Research Collection School Of Accountancy
We analyze whether the organizational structure of firms (i.e., whether a firm is diversified or focused) affects their cash holdings. Using Compustat firm level and segment-level data, we find that diversified firms hold significantly less cash than their focused counterparts. Our results are robust to industry adjustments at the segment level and to different factors previously found to be important determinants of cash holdings. Using time-series, cross-sectional, and additional robustness tests we are able to attribute the lower cash holdings among diversified firms to complementary growth opportunities across the different segments of these firms and the availability of active internal …

Digitisation's Impacts On Publics: Public Knowledge And Civic Conversation, Alessandro Lovari, Soojin Kim, Kelly Vibber, Jeong-Nam Kim

This paper proposes a new way of classifying publics in terms of their adoption and use of digitalised communication technologies. A CATI (computer aided telephone interview) survey of 1,014 citizens revealed that people in Siena, Italy, show different patterns and gaps in adopting new media and technologies as well as in using them in their civic participation and engagement. Based on the survey results, four types of publics are suggested (inactive, analogical, hybrid, and digital publics) and a demographic profile of each public including age, gender, and education is provided. It is important to address conflict in the medical field for a variety of reasons ranging from reducing turnover to increasing the quality of care received by patients. One way to assist with the management of medical conflict is by teaching resolution techniques to medical personnel. There is an opportunity for conflict management curriculum to address many of the issues facing physicians, administrators, staff and patients, however, it is also necessary for those developing that curriculum to understand the nature of the environment and appropriate conflict management tools to be used in that environment as part of the design process. …

Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects
This study explores the unique difficulties nonprofit professionals may experience in creating and maintaining online presence. Both quantitative and qualitative methods in the form of an online survey and a focus group were used to gather data from nonprofit practitioners around Bowling Green, Kentucky. Findings revealed that nonprofits suffer from limited resources, like time, funding, personnel, and expertise, which impede their ability to take advantage of websites, social networking, and online grant research. This thesis examines the subject of the maintenance of historically unprecedented levels of excess reserves during the financial crisis of 2008-09 and beyond. The thesis first provides an overview of how the buildup of excess reserves happened within the context of the credit crunch. A review of United States' legislative intervention follows. Basic implications of the maintenance of very high excess reserve levels are then discussed, with an emphasis on how this condition has hindered economic recovery. The Federal Reserve Board’s role is explored. This is followed by a comparison of the current financial crisis to a similar crisis that …

For months in 2003, the world lay under siege by a strain of virus that masqueraded as pneumonia but inflicted a far more lethal effect. By all accounts, the mystery of how the severe respiratory acute syndrome (SARS) virus came to be has remained largely unsolved (Bradsher & Altman 2003). What began as routine fever and cough in a Chinese physician, later identified as a super-carrier, rapidly spread to people who had cursory contacts with him, spiralling into a worldwide crisis that spanned Asia and the North Americas (Rosenthal 2003).

An Examination Of College Students’ Computer Self-Efficacy As Related To Various Demographic Characteristics, Debbie D. Dufrene, Timothy W. Clipson, S. Ann Wilson

Despite extensive computer exposure, today’s students vary in their judgments of their capabilities in using technology, referred to as computer self-efficacy (CSE). A survey of university students revealed highest CSE in word processing skills followed closely by file management and presentation skills. Students reported moderate ability levels in spreadsheet skills and less than moderate skill levels in database management, webpage design, and computer programming. Females tended to report higher CSE in file management and word processing applications, whereas males indicated higher CSE in web page development. Students whose parents did not attend college were likely to have lower CSE in …
