Engaging Students In An Accounting Class, Karen Martinis, James A. Bailey
All Faculty Scholarship for the College of Business
Many different styles exist for teaching accounting. Throughout the years, the authors applied different teaching methodologies in their accounting courses. They found that engaging students in the classroom setting helps the students to stay on task and makes the classroom experience more meaningful. This paper describes processes the authors used to enable students to actively participate in the learning process during class time.

The increased focus on ethical decision making in the accounting profession has resulted in greater attention being paid to the education of future accountants. Texas is one of the states that requires a State Board approved university course in Accounting Ethics to be on the transcript of prospective CPA candidates. This study reports on research using senior/graduate level accounting majors at a Texas state university before the university course requirement and after the requirement. The survey presented four vignettes for the students to consider (i.e., 2 describe an ethical decision and 2 describe an unethical decision). Students were requested to …

Universities throughout the nation are faced wiih the reality of an increase in demand from place-bound, adult working students who live and work in locations that may be hundreds of miles from traditional college campuses, and require a less centralized mode of course instruction. At the same time technological advances are now available that provide universities with a wide range of instructional modes of instruction that include interactive television (ITV) with real time audio and visual at a number of decentralized classroom sites, live and remote. This manuscript initially reviews the accounting literature which illustrates the extent to which many faculty members do not publish. The authors offer a number of suggestions for how doctoral programs can help their students be more productive after they take faculty positions. The authors also make suggestions for ways faculty members can increase the likelihood their manuscript submissions will be published.

The recent amendment to the Accountants Act 1967, fuelled much thought about the future of the accountancy profession in Malaysia, amongst members of the accounting fraternity with regard to accounting education, evaluation of professional competency and the impact of the common designation of Chartered Accountants. This study was undertaken to gather and analyse the views of members of the accounting profession.
