Revisiting The U-Shaped Patterns In Volatility And Price Impacts: Novel Results Using Trade-Time Estimates, Yashar H. Barardehi, Dan Bernhardt
Business Faculty Articles and Research
When measured using trade-time aggregation, intraday patterns in trading activity remain U-shaped, but estimates of volatility and Kyle’s lambda fall sharply from open to close. U-shaped patterns in volatility and Kyle’s lambda found using commonly-used calendar-time aggregation reflect over-aggregation biases when trading activity is high as near the open and close. Indicative of imperfectly-competitive liquidity provision, trade-time aggregation also reveals that in active markets, expected trade imbalances are positively priced and unexpected trade imbalances are more strongly priced when they share the sign of expected imbalances, while in less active markets expected trade imbalances are negatively priced.

Investing In Residential Real Estate: Understanding Homebuilder Exchange-Traded Fund Performance, Robert W. Mcleod, Davinder K. Malhotra
School of Business Faculty Papers
Homebuilder ETFs provide investors with a diversified portfolio of residential construction and sales companies which reduces risks associated with individual stock selection in the sector. This study examines the net monthly returns of homebuilder exchange-traded funds (ETFs) through various performance evaluation models and market situations. The results reveal that these ETFs outperformed benchmark indices in absolute returns. Despite homebuilding being part of the real estate sector, the correlation between monthly returns of homebuilder ETFs and the Dow Jones US Real Estate Index, though positive, is not very high. The performance of ETFs varied across market conditions, demonstrating both outperformance and …

Esg Irony: Why Corporate Tax Avoidance Must Be Considered, Reuven S. Avi-Yonah

Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investing has been the focus of major attention in corporate law. Many writers praised ESG as the future of corporate governance. The push for ESG comes from the belief that the government is incapable of fulfilling its responsibility of achieving social and environmental goals, and that corporations are frequently in the best position to help. ESG investing has been significantly bolstered by large asset management institutions like BlackRock Group, State Street Global Advisors, and Vanguard Group. The “Big Three” own large stakes in most public corporations, which they have been pushing to address ESG issues.

School shootings challenge educational safety, demanding effective leadership strategies. The Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde, Texas, which claimed the lives of 19 children and 2 teachers, heightened concerns about campus vulnerabilities, urging administrators to prioritize student protection. I performed a qualitative study interviewing principals, teachers, parents, and community leaders to examine their experiences addressing campus threats. The findings revealed three themes: (1) ineffective leadership affects campus safety, (2) prompt actions enhance trust in leadership, and (3) connecting with others enhances safety. In this study, I spotlight the crucial role that proactive leadership plays in building the coalitions needed to …

Eating What They Kill: The Stark Reality Of Athlete Compensation In Mixed Martial Arts And Potential Solutions, Christopher Piel
Arkansas Law Review
“They eat what they kill.” Dana White, President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (“UFC”) said this about the state of fighter pay in the organization. White, the voice of the company, holds firm that fighters are adequately compensated for their services. The reality is that UFC fighters are not paid what they deserve, and, one way or another, there are big changes coming to the organization and the sport of Mixed Martial Arts (“MMA”) as a whole. In this Comment, I will discuss how the UFC has used its market power to suppress fighters’ wages and subject fighters to inequitable …

Enhancing Interoperability In Geospatial Analytics Systems: Navigating Diverse Standards For Optimal Data Integrity, Justin W. Bennett
Dissertations
In this study, we explore the domain of geospatial analytics, focusing on how different geographic information systems (GIS) and technology solutions can better communicate and maximize interoperability. Central to our study is the impact of this interoperability on data integrity, which is critical for accurate decision-making in domains like urban planning, environmental management, and national security. Accurate decision-making requires modeling ecosystems that are easy to comprehend and are often intricate due to their physical or artificial nature and the diversity of geospatial parameters; therefore, it is essential to gather a comprehensive array of spatial and temporal measurements. We examine the …

Antecedents Of Brand Authenticity In Cause-Related Sport Marketing Campaigns, Keevan Statz, Brian Gordon
Journal of Applied Sport Management
Cause-related sport marketing (CRSM) has been a popular managerial technique over the last two decades. There is a common perception that for CRSM to be effective, consumers must perceive the sponsoring brand to be authentic in its actions. Minimal empirical research has analyzed the antecedent factors that lead consumers to perceive a brand as authentic in CRSM. Using multiple linear regression, six antecedent factors’ impact on brand authenticity were tested. Perceptions of the brand’s motives and brand transparency were found to have a statistically significant impact on brand authenticity.

The Role Of Fans’ Responses To Sponsorship Activation In Shaping Sport Sponsorship Effectiveness, Junyi Bian, Benjamin Colin Cork
Journal of Applied Sport Management
The study explored how types of benefit in sponsorship affect fans’ inference of sponsors’ motives and their consequences on sponsorship effectiveness. A total of 1,478 National Basketball Association fans were recruited via Amazon Mechanical Turk and completed surveys through Qualtrics. Findings indicated that sponsors’ motives varied with types of benefit, with egoistic motives linked to utilitarian benefit and altruistic or normative motives tied to hedonic and social benefit. These results extended previous research by exploring more than the altruistic-egoistic motive dichotomy in linking benefit types to sponsorship effectiveness, highlighting the importance of aligning benefit with fan preference to boost relevance.
