During the fall of 2023, Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP) researchers conducted a statewide study to establish a baseline for public perceptions related to the awareness, understanding, and attitudes about challenges that Utah women and girls face. In early 2024, we published 20 short research summaries that shared the results of this comprehensive study. Then, in the fall of 2024, we administered the survey, with slight refinements, around the state of Utah. We now share the results of the 2024 data by releasing six white papers; this is the fifth in the series.

Synthesizing Metoo: A Meta-Analysis Of Workplace Sexual Harassment In Hospitality And Tourism, Yunxuan Carrie Zhang, Cass Shum

Purpose – Despite increasing research attention on hospitality and tourism workplace sexual harassment, there is a lack of holistic understanding of its nomological networks. This meta-analysis aims to synthesize the antecedents and consequences of workplace sexual harassment in the context of tourism and hospitality.

Design/methodology/approach – A total of 184 effect sizes from 39 independent hospitality and tourism studies (N=12,093) were included in this meta-analysis. Comprehensive MetaAnalysis software was used to analyze the results.

Findings – The results supported victim age and work environment as antecedents of workplace sexual harassment. Workplace sexual harassment affects work-related (job attitudes and job performance) …

The Effects Of Conventional And Unconventional Monetary Policy Shocks On The Stock Market, Sajjadur Rahman

This paper applies weekly data to investigate the effects of the conventional and unconventional monetary policy shocks on US stock returns, using a multivariate structural VAR model that considers transmission mechanisms in channeling the effects of these shocks into the stock market. We identify both types of policy shocks using high and low volatility in the relevant policy variables. Our empirical results suggest that the interest rate channel, not the bank lending channel, plays a major role in the process of transmission and the US stock market responds less to the conventional monetary policy than the unconventional one. Throughout her lifetime, the capital stock value of a cow first rises as the size/quality of calves increase, then declines because there are fewer calves expected over her remaining lifetime. The value later in life begins to rise in anticipation of culling value.

We estimate the age distribution of the Nebraska cow herd every year, then we estimate the capital value of each cohort. Adding these values across ages and adjusting to 2015 prices, we obtain the series of capital values, measured in terms of 2015 dollars.

Perceptions Of Artificial Intelligence In Healthcare: A Qualitative Study Among Physicians And Nurses In Florida, Aaron Miri

This investigation will leverage participant focus group interviews with 32 clinicians (16 nurses / 16 physicians) to study what, if anything, is inhibiting AI adoption across the hospital. Specific physicians will be sourced across the key service lines of primary care, oncology, cardiology, behavioral health, and emergency department medicine, as these tend to be patient volume driven and thus have the maximum amount of potential for positive impact leveraging AI. Nurses in these same departments will be assessed to analyze if there is a similarity or difference between the nursing and physician AI adoption barriers.

The pursuit of gender equality in the Caribbean and Latin America is a significant issue, as indicated by the 2022 Global Gender Disparity Report, which projects that, at its current pace, it will require 132 years to eliminate gender inequality globally. Given the historical male dominance in the transport and logistics sector, the purpose of this study was to explore Guyanese women's experiences in this male-dominated industry (Ng & Acker, 2020). On August 29, 2023, a video testimony entitled ‘Burned at the Stake’: One NCAA Coach’s Battle to Protect Women’s Sport was released. The film was part of a “female athlete storytelling series” developed and funded by the Independent Women’s Forum (IWF) designed to support the IWF’s stated agenda to “fight to save women’s sports and counter the radical agenda that seeks to erase women” by allowing transgender girls and women on teams that match their identities. The purpose of this research is to analyze the career paths of current NCAA Division I women athletic directors (ADs), towards the goal of building and identifying networks within intercollegiate athletics. By using social network analysis (SNA), this research builds out a hiring network within intercollegiate athletics by analyzing the career changes of current Division I women ADs. The objectives of this study included exploring current women AD career paths, uncovering institutions deemed most influential in the network, and comparing the career paths of women and men ADs. When organizational choices contradict the leaders’ beliefs or behaviors, psychological discomfort can occur (Festinger, 1957). The effects of psychological discomfort have several disadvantages to organizational progress, including decreased adaptation to change, snap judgments, and ineffective decision-making. While existing research highlights the effects of psychological discomfort experienced by employees, a gap has been identified when exploring information on leader-experienced psychological discomfort (Hinojosa et al., 2016; Telci et al., 2011).

This study set out to determine the perceived benefits of, and barriers to, open-water swimming (OWS). Adopting a mixed-methods approach, six hundred and sixty-five open-water swimmers responded to an online survey consisting of the Exercise Benefits and Barriers Scale (EBBS) and a series of open-ended questions. Data from the EBBS revealed the strongest perceived benefits to be ‘Psychological Outlook’ and ‘Life Enhancement.’ In terms of barriers, those presented in the EBBS received low ratings with only ‘Physical Exertion’ considered as being somewhat problematic. Many of the UK open water accidental deaths have been attributed to the initial responses to cold water immersion (CWI) collectively known as the cold shock response (CSR). The aim of this study was to analyse the publicly available internet information on CWI and CSR for accuracy and quality compared to the ‘gold standard’ published, peer-reviewed research. Seventy-eight webpages which provided information in English on unexpected CWI and CSR were evaluated. Webpages were accessible, widely available, and had appropriate readability scores. Wealth management firms have failed to produce meaningful organic growth in the years leading up to the early 2020s; treading water with average growth of 3-4% (Sharry, 2024), while client assets grew 19% during that same period (Dai et al., 2023). This was due, in large part, to wealth management firms struggling to drive client acquisition with tenured financial advisors (Crowley & Wagner, 2021). Although some research identified the client acquisition activities employed by financial advisors, there was a lack of understanding as to which strategies were used by high performing advisors and how they were employed.

The classroom pedagogies are evolving significantly with Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI). The students in a Food Supply Chains class completed a project for various agricultural products describing 12 factors and 7 supply chain principles. They reflected on the use of GenAI and how it impacted their knowledge and critical thinking skills. The students scored GenAI high on ‘relevancy, diverse topics, significance, and sufficiency;' the repeated use of GenAI for food supply chains enabled them recognize the importance of sustainability and ESG factors in the management of natural resources. There were differences in students use and benefits with GenAI use.

Capital Spending Patterns: Urban, Rural, And Critical Access Hospitals, 2011-2022, Carlo Mendez

This study examined the organizational, operational, and financial characteristics of rural critical access, rural non-critical access, and urban hospitals. The objective was to assess hospital capital spending, an important indicator of financial reinvestment within an organization.

In 2022, critical access hospitals allocated 6.2% of total expenses to capital spending, compared to 5.8% for rural non-critical access and 6.5% for urban. In 2011, these figures were 8.4%, 7.2%, and 7.2%, respectively. Regression-adjusted results revealed that from 2011 to 2022, each additional year contributed to a 2.6% decrease in capital expenses relative to total expenses across all hospitals. (March 14, 2025)—Steve Ellis, Assistant Dean of Student Affairs at East Tennessee State University Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy, is the first non-pharmacist ever to earn the Tennessee Society of Student Pharmacists Student Advocacy Award from the Tennessee Pharmacists Association (TPA).
