Local Institutional Investors And Corporate Monitoring: Evidence From Cross-Listed Korean Stocks In The Us Market, Changhwan Choi, Chune Young Chung, Jun Myung Song

Using Korean firms that are cross-listed in the US market, this paper investigates whether there are standalone effects of geographic and market proximity of institutional investors on monitoring performance. We find that Korean institutional ownership is negatively associated with earnings management while the US institutional ownership has no impact on earnings management. This suggests that there is the geographic proximity advantage over the market proximity advantage in the emerging markets. Furthermore, we also show that the impact of geographic proximity is stronger for firms with high informational opacity

This study explores how organizational commitment is associated with employee satisfaction regarding the human resource management (HRM) practices of training/development and compensation. Drawing on Affective Events Theory (AET), this research also examines the role of past temporal focus as a moderating variable of the proposed relationships. Community banks in the U.S. have invested heavily in technology over the past decade with the goal of improving efficiency but have not achieved the expected outcomes in efficiency ratio. We investigate the role of investor sentiment in institutional herding behavior and its impact on stock prices. We find that institutional investors exhibit more herding behavior during periods of high sentiment, which has a significant impact on stock prices. Our results show that herding has a stabilizing effect on the stock market when investor sentiment is low, while it causes price distortions when sentiment is high. We also show that the impact of sentiment on price is particularly pronounced for small, non-profitable, low tangibility, high-growth firms.

Purpose: Despite the extensive debate over the years about the involvement of boards in strategy, little is known about special committees dedicated to strategy. This paper aims to enhance understanding of strategy committees (SCs) within European public boards by addressing two key questions: What are the characteristics of SCs, and what tasks do they undertake?

Design/Methodology/Approach: Document analysis from 81 SCs established by boards of directors and supervisory boards in companies listed on nine major European stock exchanges.

Purpose: This study seeks to demonstrate the relationship between the components that form employee engagement using the IT services industry, which faces specific issues due to its constantly changing environment and reliance on skilled talent.

Design/Methodology: A structural equation modelling (SEM) with an importance performance map analysis (IPMA) was used to examine answers to surveys from 221 IT executives.

Purpose: This study analyses transformational leadership on organisational performance. Organisational learning and organisational innovation as a link to create improvements in organisational performance in manufacturing companies.

Methodology: This quantitative descriptive collected data using survey, with a 5-point likert scale questionnaires. Participants were 121 employees of a company. Purpose– Despite the abundance of small-scale farms in the USA and their importance for both rural economic development and food availability, the extensive research on small business management and entrepreneurship has mostly neglected the agricultural context, leaving many of these farms’ business challenges unexplored. Purpose– While entrepreneurship has long been heralded for its positive contributions, there is a growing recognition of its “dark side,” characterized by unproductive, unethical and destructive actions. This exploratory literature review aims to illuminate the underexplored dark side of entrepreneurship, thereby enriching the discourse on entrepreneurship’s dual nature.

Design/methodology/approach– This study employs a robust mixed-method approach, integrating phenomenologically detailed co-citation bibliographic coupling with detailed thematic data and code-weaving. Real earnings management (REM) is costly in the form of intense loan restrictions, increased interest expense, and public scrutiny. Nevertheless, companies still practice REM. Based on agency and stakeholder theories, this research predicts that as a company’s CSR score increases, REM will decrease, and this association will become more negative when a critical mass of females on the board of directors exists and when a board-level CSR committee is present.
