Leadership Strategies And Retention In Government Agencies, Desiree Nicole Andrus
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractLow retention creates a loss of talent, and an unstable workforce harms employee performance and productivity, significantly decreasing internal proficiency. Grounded in the transformational leadership theory, the purpose of this single case study was to explore strategies government leaders use to enhance employee retention. The participants consisted of four supervisory government employees in a single agency in Washington D.C. Data were collected through semistructured interviews and follow-up member checking, direct observations, and a review of organizational documents. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis; four themes emerged: idiosyncratic employee engagement, specific relational transmissions, promotion of diversity, and stimulating psychological incentives. A …

The Dark Side Of Social Media Engagement: An Analysis Of User-Generated Content In Online Wildlife Trade Communities, Kim Feddema, Paul Harrigan, Shasha Wang
All Works
There is a growing academic interest on the dark side of engagement on social media and the role of user-generated content (UGC). The illicit trade of wildlife online is a major contributor to global species loss and, thus, strategies to reduce demand for wild species and consumer engagement in the market and are of paramount importance. We first conduct qualitative analyses on a large data set of UGC (n=14,729 words from 1060 comments from 12 Facebook groups) from a biodiversity hotspot, The Republic of Indonesia. We use automatic machine-learning lexical software to explore the discourse that occurs in comments of …
Winning The War On Poverty: Tracking Living Standards In The Philippines Using A Class Of Axiomatic Indices, John Paolo R. Rivera
Winning The War On Poverty: Tracking Living Standards In The Philippines Using A Class Of Axiomatic Indices, John Paolo R. Rivera
DLSU Business & Economics Review
Poverty has persistently badgered the Philippines and alleviating it has been the fundamental thrust of government. However, this was hampered by the recent pandemic resulting in economic contraction plunging many Filipino households into poverty and widening inequality. Bootstrapping the economy is needed to fast-track recovery through resumption of innovative reforms vital to pursue a higher growth path that will accelerate poverty reduction. To do this, it is necessary to understand where the Philippines stands, using household data. Without updated measures and well-informed national and regional profiles on living standards, poverty reduction is bleak, as programs to facilitate it remain to …

Competitive Advantages Of Cross-Border M&As To Non-Location-Bound Chinese Ict Firms, Yan Chen, Fei Li, Jaime Ortiz, Wenbo Guo
International Business and Entrepreneurship Faculty Publications
Cross-border mergers and acquisitions (M&As) undertaken by emerging market firms have been associated with competitive advantage. However, little research has focused on the transferability of this enhanced competitive advantage. Even less is known about the role played by state-owned enterprises. This paper investigates whether Chinese information and communications technology firms that undertake cross-border M&As can improve their non-location bound competitive advantage. We used cross-border data between 2010 and 2017 and propensity-score matching and differences-in-differences approaches. We found that cross-border M&As significantly improve the home-country-bound competitive advantage. However, the effect on non-location bound competitive advantage is not significant. From the perspective …

Toward A More Perma(Nent) Conceptualization Of Worker Well-Being? A Cross-Cultural Study Of The Workplace Perma Profiler, William P. Jimenez, Xiaoxiao Hu, Rebecca Garden, Xiaofei Xie
Psychology Faculty Publications
We examined the factor structure of the recently developed worker well-being measure the Workplace PERMA Profiler and relationships between PERMA dimensions (i.e., positive emotions, engagement, positive relationships, meaning, accomplishment) and job performance (viz., task performance, organizational citizenship behaviors benefiting individuals and the organization at large). The measure exhibited metric (i.e., weak) invariance across samples of participants from the U.S. (N = 284) and China (N = 420). Additionally, for participants who responded to both the Workplace PERMA Profiler and the performance measures, there was a general pattern of positive PERMA–performance relationships across both …

Fake It Till You Make It With Your Boss? Surface Acting In Interactions With Leaders, Xiaoxiao Hu, Yujie Zhan, William P. Jimenez, Rebecca Garden, Yi Li
Psychology Faculty Publications
Due to its influence on important workplace outcomes, surface acting has drawn increasing attention from researchers in recent years. Most of the research in this area has focused on employees’ interactions with individuals external to the organization, such as customers and clients (Bolton, 2005; Grandey et al., 2013). With the current study, we contribute to and extend the literature by focusing on employees’ leader-directed surface acting and examining how leader-directed surface acting (i.e., faking positive emotions and suppressing negative emotions in interactions with one’s leader) relates to leader ratings of employee task performance. Data collected from 414 employees and 103 …

Business Analysis And Future Development Of An Electric Vehicle Company -- Tesla, Xuan Shao, Qin Wang, Haoyi Yang
Psychology Faculty Publications
The boom in electric vehicles in recent years has caught the attention of many companies that are investing or will be investing in the industry due to the increasing demand for electric cars. Tesla as a leader of the electric vehicles (EVs) industry, its development is of vital significance for referential value. Previous research on electric vehicle acceptance and behavioral intention of purchase is comprehensive, which could enable the EVs industry to understand consumer psychology. However, there is little analysis of the business strategy and future development of specific companies. When it comes to sustainability, almost every company has a …

Sustainability In Construction Projects: A Systematic Literature Review, Reza Kiani Mavi, Denise Gengatharen, Neda Kiani Mavi, Richard Hughes, Alistair J. Campbell, Ross Yates
Research outputs 2014 to 2021
This paper aims to identify the major research concepts studied in the literature of sustainability in construction projects. Two bibliometric analysis tools—(a) BibExcel and (b) Gephi, were used to analyze the bibliometrics indices of papers and visualize their interrelations as a network, respectively. Therefore, a research focus parallelship network (RFPN) analysis and keyword co-occurrence network (KCON) analysis were performed to uncover the primary research themes. The RFPN analysis clustered the studies into three major categories of evaluating sustainability, project management for sustainability, and drivers of sustainable construction. The KCON analysis revealed that while each paper had a different focus, the …

Accessing The Effect Of Renewables On The Wholesale Power Market, Mohammad Nure Alam
Accessing The Effect Of Renewables On The Wholesale Power Market, Mohammad Nure Alam
Research outputs 2014 to 2021
© 2021, Econjournals. All rights reserved. The purpose of this paper is to examine how rising wind energy generation (in MWh) impact the wholesale power market’s volatility (in SEK) across four bidding regions in Sweden. Prior investigations show that though the increase in electricity production from wind energy lowers the average day-ahead electricity wholesale prices, however, uncertainty and volatility of market price could rise due to wind energy’s intermittent nature. This study results show that Swedish power market experiences higher price volatility in long-run frequency when the generation of wind electricity increases. The reason for this high and volatile electricity …

Comparison Of Weighted And Unweighted Methods Of Wealth Indices For Assessing Socio-Economic Status, Muhammad Tareq, Assim Ibrahim Abdel-Razzaq, Md Arafat Rahman, Tonmoy Choudhury
Research outputs 2014 to 2021
Due to some of the limitations of monetary measures, various non-monetary approaches for assessing household wealth have been developed as alternative tools for classifying household socio-economic status. Among them, wealth indices based on household durable assets are being used. The literature revealed that two basic methods of constructing wealth indices are employed: an unweighted method, where assets are weighted equally; and a weighted method, where specific weights are assigned to assets. In the case of using the weighted method, weighting can be assigned using various techniques. The overall objective of the study is to compare the wealth indices constructed by …
