The Comparison Between Social Media Marketing Strategies In The United Kingdom And United States Professional Soccer Teams, Lerol Parchment
Honors Theses
Communication is a lot different today than it was 20 years ago. People today spend hours on their social media where they receive the majority of the information about the world. Thus, social media is one of the most influential platforms in the professional sports industry to market sports and engage with fans. The purpose of this study was to gain an in-depth understanding of the common and different social media strategies adopted by professional soccer teams in the UK soccer leagues, and United States soccer league to market their products to consumers all over the world. Leveraging Linkedin: How Can Educators Help College Students Market Themselves?, Ruby Daniels, Mark Dempsey
Marketing Faculty Publications (Archived)
To successfully transition from college to career, community college students must be prepared to sell their skills to potential employers. LinkedIn, the world’s leading professional networking website, provides college students and graduates with an affordable platform to promote their knowledge, skills, and abilities. Unfortunately, students often do not know how to communicate a unique value proposition in their LinkedIn profiles. In response, the National Convergence Technology Center (CTC), based in Collin College, developed a 30-minute webinar to train community college educators about how to avoid common mistakes in LinkedIn. High interest in the webinar as well as responses to a …
Priming In Leadership: Applying Communication Theory To The Speeches Of Ronald Reagan, Katherine Sakai
Priming In Leadership: Applying Communication Theory To The Speeches Of Ronald Reagan, Katherine Sakai
Senior Honors Theses
The study of priming gained traction in the 1990s when researchers such as John Bargh demonstrated the nonconscious activation of ideas, often through repeated related words or activated schema. Since then, researchers have studied the effects of priming on self-view, achievement, and teamwork. While the concept of priming has just recently begun to be applied to leadership in the workplace, no research has yet been done in finding examples of priming theory in the speeches of well-known leaders. In this study, Ronald Reagan’s persuasive tactics were analyzed and found to use similar methods of repetition and schema used in priming …
Application Of Crisis Communication Theories During The 2019 College Admissions Scandal: Operation Varsity Blues, Rebecca Grach
Application Of Crisis Communication Theories During The 2019 College Admissions Scandal: Operation Varsity Blues, Rebecca Grach
Senior Honors Theses
Operation Varsity Blues was a federal investigation in 2019 that discovered an enormous college admissions scandal, where wealthy parents were paying to have someone bribe school officials or coaches with the end goal of having their child accepted into an elite university. As the investigation was released, each of the eight universities involved sent out press releases that explained where the university stood regarding the scandal and what they were doing in response. Using the well-establish crisis communication theories of Benoit’s Image Repair Theory (1995) and Coomb’s Situational Crisis Communication Theory (2007), a qualitative content analysis on the communications from …
A Suggested Revision Of The 2020 Vertical Merger Guidelines (July 2021), Steven C. Salop
A Suggested Revision Of The 2020 Vertical Merger Guidelines (July 2021), Steven C. Salop
Georgetown Law Faculty Publications and Other Works
The DOJ/ FTC Vertical Merger Guidelines (VMGs) were adopted by the FTC in June 2020 by a party-line 3-2 party line over the dissent of the Acting Chair. One might expect that the VMGs will be withdrawn and/or revised, now that there is a Democratic majority. Revision is appropriate because the VMGs are both incomplete and overly permissible. This Suggested Revision can aid that process.
Fakes, Forgeries, And Value Perception, Pearson Moore
Fakes, Forgeries, And Value Perception, Pearson Moore
Honors Theses
Fakes and forgeries generate a false sense of value in the art market that changes the perception of authentic works. Understanding the difference between a fake and a forgery is essential for explaining the schemes of deceivers who have fooled the art market into believing their work is of grandiose value and prestige. The creation of a forged piece or fake provenance documents requires immense artistic skill and a talent for breaking the rules. Examining famous figures and the criminal cases against them is a great way to work backwards from their “successes,” tracing the alleged origins of the piece’s …

A Survey Of Financial Accounting Reporting, James H. Robbins
Honors Theses
This thesis takes a survey of key accounting issues and concepts addressed in financial accounting reporting. Accountancy majors of the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College were given an opportunity to complete their thesis before their internship during senior year by taking two classes over junior year. This thesis was constructed under the guidance of Dr. Vicki Dickinson. The thesis itself is a compilation of twelve different cases, and each case studies various areas of the accounting and business environment.
Wage Theft, Economic Conditions, And Market Power: The Case Of H-1b Workers, Peter Norlander, Jed Devaro
Wage Theft, Economic Conditions, And Market Power: The Case Of H-1b Workers, Peter Norlander, Jed Devaro
School of Business: Faculty Publications and Other Works
This study explores what determines employers’ violations of the wage contracts of workers on H-1B temporary work visas, which occur when firms pay those workers below the promised prevailing or “market” wage. A theoretical framework is proposed that predicts more violations during economic downturns, fewer violations when firms have more labor-market power, and more violations by subcontractor firms. Empirical analysis is based on a firm-level matched dataset of wage and hour violations and the firms that sponsor H-1Bs. Higher labor market power, measured by the Herfindahl-Hirschman Index, is associated with fewer violations. Higher unemployment rates and subcontractor firms are associated …
How Positive Practices In Organizations Are Associated With Employee Engagement Via The Moderating Effects Of Generational Cohorts In U.S. Customer Service Organizations, Deborah A. Poole
Theses & Dissertations
The purpose of this study is to examine the moderating role that the respective workforce generational cohorts may have on the relationship between positive practices in organizations and levels of employee engagement of U.S. based adult customer service representatives of all races. Studies show that higher employee engagement positively affects employee motivation, satisfaction, productivity, and ultimately the financial success of the organization. However, the levels of engagement for front line customer service positions are some of the lowest of occupations measured by Gallup and have actually declined in recent years. The broaden and build theory of positive emotions shows that …

Environmental, Social, And Governance Performance Of Top-Rated Supply Chain Companies: A Quantitative Assessment Model, Noah Tellier
Environmental, Social, And Governance Performance Of Top-Rated Supply Chain Companies: A Quantitative Assessment Model, Noah Tellier
Honors Projects in Management
The objective of this paper is to create a quantitative method to determine the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) score of a company in order to mitigate the subjectivity or bias inherent in current ESG scoring methodologies. An ESG score is a metric that tells a consumer how well a firm is performing in meeting Environmental, Social and Governance aspects that are relevant to the firm. This paper effectively develops a new ESG scoring system based off of the Global Reporting Initiative ESG standards framework. Using this framework, ESG scores were calculated for companies in the Gartner Supply Chain Top …

Barriers And Enablers To Building Entrepreneurial Ecosystems As Perceived By Change Agents In The Workplace, Shanda Barrett
Barriers And Enablers To Building Entrepreneurial Ecosystems As Perceived By Change Agents In The Workplace, Shanda Barrett
Dissertations
This study explores factors that influence entrepreneurial ecosystems. Clifton (2010, 2015) recommends entrepreneurship, better business models, and new business startups as a solution for economic renewal in the United States and specifically identifies disengaged workers and low-energy workplaces as the starting point. The recommendation does not address how to make workplaces conducive to entrepreneurial activity, nor does the recommendation address how to engage entrepreneurial employees.
Existing literature outlines the known tensions between theory, anecdotal evidence, and the professional practice of building entrepreneurial ecosystems. To date, the term entrepreneurial ecosystem exists as a metaphor in the extant literature. While scholars have …
Higher Education Business And Technology Leaders’ Behaviors That Drive Outcome Alignment, Katherine Lynch-Holmes
Higher Education Business And Technology Leaders’ Behaviors That Drive Outcome Alignment, Katherine Lynch-Holmes
Dissertations
Higher education institutions (HEIs) face unprecedented challenges, including capacity alignment, financial sustainability, and even public confidence (Grajeck & Brooks, 2020; Grawe, 2019; Oblinger, 2019; Simone, 2020, Wheeler, 2020, Witt & Coyne, 2019). Financial challenges force HEIs to reduce costs by making decisions like cutting programs, laying off staff or merging institutions to reduce operating costs (Chen et al., 2019; Sellingo, 2017; Witt & Coyne, 2019). Higher education leaders (HELs) must act as trusted partners and broker technology to align processes, support, and outcomes (Luftman 2000; Petkovics, 2018; Reinitz, 2019). Unfortunately, higher education’s business-technology (BITA) alignment remains lower than other national …

Water Elites’ Perceptions Of Water Security In The Middle East And North Africa Region, Ghaleb Akari
Dissertations
The Middle East and North African region continues to face significant water security challenges. The purpose of this dissertation is to gain a deeper understanding of water elites’ perceptions of water security in the MENA region. It is not meant to generalize the findings. Instead, the intention for the research is to identify, explain, and analyze by national elites' contrasting perceptions in Jordan, Iraq, Egypt, and Tunisia.
The study examines water elites’ perceptions in four areas: current knowledge level of water security, water resource management, water service delivery, and water-related risk mitigation. These elites’ perceptions of water security will help …
Partner Trust Level In Collaborative Demand Forecast Sharing And Its Impact On Supply Chain Profitability, Seong-Hyun Nam
Partner Trust Level In Collaborative Demand Forecast Sharing And Its Impact On Supply Chain Profitability, Seong-Hyun Nam
School of Entrepreneurship Faculty Publications
Considering trust as a critical factor for successful collaborative demand forecast sharing, this paper studies the dynamic relationship between trust level-based forecasting capability and supply chain profitability. We develop a forecasting coordination model to examine how the enhanced partner trust level can influence the forecasting evolution to improve demand forecasts’ accuracy. We estimate costs and profits from demand forecast sharing under varying trust levels between a buyer and a partner supplier and then determine the optimal level of trust for both parties to create the maximum economic value through collaborative demand forecast sharing. To assess the opportunity costs associated with …

The Human Services Workforce Crisis: Moving Forward With Intention In Massachusetts, Suzanne Gray Henderson
The Human Services Workforce Crisis: Moving Forward With Intention In Massachusetts, Suzanne Gray Henderson
School of Professional Studies
The human services field is growing rapidly in Massachusetts as it is across the country, and the Commonwealth does not have enough qualified staff to fill vacancies. The workforce shortage has risen to crisis levels due to high turnover, insufficient training, low wages, and a lack of recognition and appreciation for direct support professionals. The individuals receiving services in Massachusetts deserve quality and stability. The state budget – strained by inefficient service models and reactive fixes – also demands systemic change. The human services workforce crisis impacts a variety of stakeholders. Individuals served are directly affected, as are the direct …

Neural Network With Nlp, Harshita Sharma, Tinkle Jain
School of Professional Studies
This thesis is about neural networks and how their algorithmic systems work. Neural networks are well-suited to aiding people with complex challenges in real-world situations. Thesis topics include nonlinear and complicated interactions between inputs and outputs, as well as making inferences, discovering hidden links, patterns, and predictions, and modeling highly volatile data and variations to forecast uncommon events. Neural networks have the potential to help people make better decisions. NLP is a technique for analyzing, interpreting, and comprehending large amounts of text. We can no longer evaluate the text using traditional approaches due to the massive volumes of text data …
Moving From Shelter To A Housing First Reponse, Robyn Kennedy
Moving From Shelter To A Housing First Reponse, Robyn Kennedy
School of Professional Studies
Massachusetts is a right to shelter state for families who experience homelessness. Based on decisions made several decades ago, the state assigned the response to families who experience homelessness to the Department of Welfare (now the Department of Transitional Assistance) and a shelter, rather than a housing response was adopted. Following national best practice, the state has decided to transition the system to a Housing First response. Through this research, I will be evaluating the trends in the industry and assessing what Massachusetts needs to do to achieve a Housing First approach to serving families who are experiencing homelessness. Unless …
Pharmaceutical Stock Prices Around Medicare Part D Expansion, Spencer Powell
Pharmaceutical Stock Prices Around Medicare Part D Expansion, Spencer Powell
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
On January 1, 2006 Medicare part D expanded, giving prescription coverage to many Americans. This event offers an interesting question regarding market efficiency, specifically because Medicare expansion was introduced into congress as far back as 1999. Because Medicare part D affected pharmaceutical drug coverage, this study focuses specifically on securities in the pharmaceutical industry. Following an efficient market hypothesis, we would expect to see significant abnormal returns in the post event window, anticipating the legislations effect on demand within the industry. Results showed significant abnormal returns in post-event window, but not in the pre-event window. The returns in the post-event …
