JOHNSON CITY – (Oct. 18, 2021) One month from today, the Bert C. Bach Theatre at East Tennessee State University’s Martin Center for the Arts will open its doors.

“Our students and faculty have been anticipating this day for years, while others have been waiting decades for this moment,” said Karen Brewster, chair of ETSU’s Department of Theatre and Dance.  “We have a truly state-of-the-art black box theater, and we are so excited to welcome our patrons and the community to our new home.”

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

This study examined records management practices in public universities of Nigeria. Qualitative research using a single case study approach with a semi-structured interview technique was used to extract data from 14 stakeholders in records and information management regarding the research topic. Software for qualitative research analysis ATLAS-ti 7.0 was used to aid the data analysis. The result of the study among others shows that RIM is predominantly conducted manually in the university with a lot of challenges. There is a growing global awareness on the importance of sustainability practices. Some major reasons for the growing awareness of sustainability practices are increased legal requirements by governments, customer demands, and political/societal pressure. This paper discuses environmental sustainability practices of micro enterprises and SMEs in Albania. Nine Albanian SMEs were interviewed about their sustainability practices and the results are discussed. The results of this study show that even though there is a lack of detailed sustainability requirements in Albania many SMEs are aware of environmental sustainability and are beginning to implement sustainability practices. (Oct. 15, 2021) – The internationally renowned British vocal ensemble VOCES8 will perform a program juxtaposing Renaissance music with jazz and pop at East Tennessee State University in the ETSU Foundation Grand Hall of the Martin Center for the Arts on Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 7:30 p.m.

Their program includes works by Byrd, Britten, Rachmaninov, Palestrina and Bach, as well as VOCES8-styled standards including “Me and My Shadow,” “I Won’t Dance,” “Cheek to Cheek” and “Straighten Up and Fly Right.”

On April 25, 2021, the Washington state legislature enacted a new state capital gains tax. Prior to the enactment of the new state capital gains tax, Washington had been one of the few states that did not impose a tax on either income or capital gains. The limitations imposed by the Washington state constitution have forced the legislature to characterize the tax as an excise tax, rather than treat it as an income tax as would the federal government and every other state. “Approximately one in eight women will face breast cancer in their lifetime. Unfortunately, COVID-19 has affected routine screenings and reconstruction opportunities for many patients,” said Dr. Alicia Billington, an ETSU Health plastic and reconstructive surgeon who has helped lead the awareness efforts. “We are hoping our efforts to promote awareness encourage patients to get their screening imaging and exams.”

The Sarah R. Bowen Ledger consists of a ledger book, three loose ledger sheets, three deposit receipts, five new clippings, three photograph negatives, and a letter.

Sarah R. (Baird) Bowen was born in 1843 in New York. She married Thomas C. Bowen (1841-1875) in 1867. They ran a shipping company together in Colfax, Illinois. Sarah died in 1919.

Eugene P. Mock was born on August 28, 1904 in Illinois. Early in life, he lived in Zanesville, Ohio before joining the new formed Air Corps. He later became a train conductor for the Union Pacific Railroad in Los Angeles, California. Late in life he was a mail carrier in Trona, California. Mock married Juanita Charlotte Wikoff in 1938 and had two children. Eugene Mock died while visiting Colorado on September 11, 1970.

The Edward Skelton diary consists of daily entries from January 1^st, to November 14^th, 1875 with purchases and expenses registered from 1878-1879. Most diary entries mention daily farm work, hangouts, the weather and Sunday School. The entries are short and also describe daily activities of plowing, cutting timber, going to the market, and visiting the neighbors.

Edward Skelton was born in 1854 and lived in Labette County, Kansas with his parents. Edward worked as a farmer and was married to Artie Storey in 1880. Edward Skelton died in 1915.

An entrepreneurial philanthropist who wanted to help students “get on the field” of owning and operating their own businesses provided funding to name a school of business in the Midwest. He focused on the concept of working with a franchisor to help locate opportunities to get young “franchisepreneurs” started. The University would train the students on how to operate a small business, and the franchisor would help the university locate an underperforming franchise and sell the franchise to a student at a relatively low price. Global Relief Services is working with a world-renowned international consulting firm on a site location strategy. The consulting firm, ABC Inc., had previously supported the United Nations (UN) on multiple crisis situations over the past ten years and has experience assisting with site location decisions in the past. The GRS team, assisted by the logistics team of ABC Inc., will determine an optimal site(s) for warehousing supplies in areas distant from vendor donors. Students’ recommendations should include the optimal site location and resource allocation strategy and planning.
