Investigating The Influence Of A Web Based Logistics Tool On The Effectiveness Of Operations For The Center Of Innovation For Logistics Of Georgia, David Vaughn Jan 2020

Investigating The Influence Of A Web Based Logistics Tool On The Effectiveness Of Operations For The Center Of Innovation For Logistics Of Georgia, David Vaughn

Honors College Theses

Research suggests a correlation between advancements in logistics infrastructure and the development rate of regional economies. Some states have identified this correlation and have taken steps to create specialized entities aimed at catalyzing the growth of logistics within their state. In the state of Georgia, the Center of Innovation for Logistics is the entity responsible for coordinating logistic development activities. As part of their responsibilities, they are tasked with fulfilling information requests regarding logistics infrastructure availability throughout the state. However, the system is used to process these requests is antiquated and extremely inefficient. In an attempt to ameliorate this process, …

Can Social Media Marketing Effects Be Sustained?, Manisha Mathur Jan 2020

Can Social Media Marketing Effects Be Sustained?, Manisha Mathur

AMTP Proceedings 2020

The social media strategies have changed the landscape of customer-firm associations. Yet, little is understood about the sustained effects of social media, particularly on firm performance. This research examines the extent to which social media plays a key role in the development of branding and marketing strategies that lead to sustained competitive advantage. We use econometric modeling to determine whether a brand’s performance remains stable with the extended implementation of social media marketing and how long the effect of social media is beneficial for a firm. The results yield significant implications for both marketing theory and practice.

The objective is …

Innowacyjność –Polski Problem Rozwojowy. Doganianie Zachodu W Warunkach Nieciągłości, Grzegorz Jędrzejczak, Henryk Sterniczuk

Monografie/Monographs

Abandoning Copyright, David Fagundes, Aaron Perzanowski Jan 2020

Abandoning Copyright, David Fagundes, Aaron Perzanowski

Faculty Articles

For nearly two hundred years, U.S. copyright law has assumed that owners may voluntarily abandon their rights in a work. But scholars have largely ignored copyright abandonment, and case law on the subject is fragmented and inconsistent. As a result, abandonment remains poorly theorized, owners can avail themselves of no reliable mechanism to abandon their works, and the practice remains rare. This Article seeks to bring copyright abandonment out of the shadows, showing that it is a doctrine rich in conceptual, normative, and practical significance. Unlike abandonment of real and chattel property, which imposes significant public costs in exchange for …

Notice Risk And Registered Agency, Andrew K. Jennings Jan 2020

Notice Risk And Registered Agency, Andrew K. Jennings

Faculty Articles

To sue a firm is to sue an artificial person, making the most reliable service method—physically handing papers to the defendant—unusable. This problem illustrates notice risk: if a plaintiff’s service obligations are loose, it is advantaged (because the defendant may never receive notice), whereas if they are strict, the defendant is advantaged (because the plaintiff may struggle to effect service). For litigation involving corporate defendants, civil procedure and corporate law mitigate this problem through a technology for managing notice risk: registered agency. A firm using this technology, because it cannot be served directly, appoints an agent who will accept papers …

Recognising The Place Of Food Tourism In Ireland: An Autoethnographic Perspective, John D. Mulcahy Jan 2020

Recognising The Place Of Food Tourism In Ireland: An Autoethnographic Perspective, John D. Mulcahy

Doctoral

This is an autoethnographic account, utilising prior publications, of my role in positioning food as a critical ingredient in Ireland’s tourism policy and strategy since 2009. As the architect and instigator of this project, my priorities were threefold: first, working from the ground up identifying local activists across the food tourism landscape to create an active and vibrant network; second, providing thought leadership for food tourism; and third, encouraging and funding others to conduct and disseminate similar research. I have chosen six book chapters, published as a result of my advocacy strategy, for this PhD by prior publication. They are …

Fraud In Nonprofit Organizations, Haylee Walker Jan 2020

Fraud In Nonprofit Organizations, Haylee Walker

Honors College Theses

This study focuses on the impact that occupational fraud has on the nonprofit sector and how nonprofit organizations react to fraud occurrences. Specifically, it focuses on how often nonprofits choose to prosecute fraudsters. It also explores how the negative publicity surrounding a fraud incident in a nonprofit might affect the subsequent amount of charitable donations that nonprofit will receive. Finally, this study will explore whether or not nonprofits have a fiduciary duty to their stakeholders to prosecute fraudsters and publicize fraud incidents.

Proprietary Costs Of Financial Reporting, Country-Level Attributes, And Financial Statement Comparability, Jangho Gil Jan 2020

Proprietary Costs Of Financial Reporting, Country-Level Attributes, And Financial Statement Comparability, Jangho Gil

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

This study investigates the impact of country-level attributes on the relationship between proprietary costs of financial reporting and financial statement comparability. Given that managers use discretion in financial reporting, proprietary costs of financial reporting and country-level attributes could play a role in shaping managers' financial reporting behavior, which, in turn, could have an impact on financial statement comparability. For international study, I use four country-level latent factors, suggested by Isidro et al. (2019), that categorize most country-level features that affect financial reporting practices. I find that the negative relationship between proprietary costs and comparability is stronger in countries with relatively …

Achieving Effectiveness And Innovation In U.S. Public Organizations Through Ability-Enhancing And Opportunity-Enhancing Soft/Commitment High Performance Work Practices, Kingshuk Saha Jan 2020

Achieving Effectiveness And Innovation In U.S. Public Organizations Through Ability-Enhancing And Opportunity-Enhancing Soft/Commitment High Performance Work Practices, Kingshuk Saha

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

It is well-established in the management literature that HPWPs improve productivity in the private sector. But does HPWPs work in the public sector? A thorough literature search revealed only 45 HPWPs studies done in the public sector. The first purpose of this Dissertation is a thorough literature review of these 45 studies. Out of these 45 studies, only 12 had samples obtained from the U.S. Hence, it can be argued that there is much to be discovered about HPWPs in the U.S. public sector. The second purpose of this Dissertation is to categorize HPWPs in the U.S. public sector based …

Environmental Governance For Whom? Examining The Political, Institutional, Fiscal, And Legal Determinants Of State Environmental Agency Budget Policy In The Us, Andrew R. Duggan Jan 2020

Environmental Governance For Whom? Examining The Political, Institutional, Fiscal, And Legal Determinants Of State Environmental Agency Budget Policy In The Us, Andrew R. Duggan

Theses and Dissertations

Budgets are a prospective tool of governance, and appropriations are a planning vehicle reflecting: bureaucracies’ values, complex interactions, collective preferences, political influences, and available resources. Research spanning 30 years finds that environmental pollution is a key determinant of environmental budgets in the US, though myriad factors, actors, and subsystems are important to consider. Due to federalism and devolution of responsibilities and authorities, environmental governance falls largely to the states. While the dynamics that shape state environmental budget policy have received scholarly interest, theoretically-driven examinations of environmental appropriations remain limited within the public budgeting and environmental policy literature.

Newman/Martoma: The Insider Trading Law's Impasse And The Promise Of Congressional Action, Tai H. Park Jan 2020

Newman/Martoma: The Insider Trading Law's Impasse And The Promise Of Congressional Action, Tai H. Park

Fordham Journal of Corporate & Financial Law

The prohibition against insider trading is a judge-made law that has evolved for over fifty years, and has reached a critical impasse in two recent decisions in the Second Circuit Court of Appeals: United States v. Newman and United States v. Martoma. Judges of the Second Circuit are sharply divided over what conduct constitutes improper trading on material nonpublic information (“MNPI”), leaving the law in profound disarray. At bottom, the disagreement stems from a decades-old split within the judiciary about how to (1) ensure a fair securities marketplace, while (2) enabling institutional analysts to probe for corporate information in furtherance …

Multilateral Transparency For Security Markets Through Dlt, David C. Donald, Mahdi H. Miraz Jan 2020

Multilateral Transparency For Security Markets Through Dlt, David C. Donald, Mahdi H. Miraz

Fordham Journal of Corporate & Financial Law

For decades, changing technology and policy choices have worked to fragment securities markets, rendering them so dark that neither ownership nor real-time price of securities are generally visible to all parties multilaterally. The policies in the U.S. National Market System and the EU Market in Financial Instruments Directive— together with universal adoption of the indirect holding system— have pushed Western securities markets into a corner from which escape to full transparency has seemed either impossible or prohibitively expensive. Although the reader has a right to skepticism given the exaggerated promises surrounding blockchain in recent years, we demonstrate in this paper …

The Layers Of Digital Financial Innovation: Charting A Regulatory Response, Teresa Rodriguez De Las Heras Ballell Jan 2020

The Layers Of Digital Financial Innovation: Charting A Regulatory Response, Teresa Rodriguez De Las Heras Ballell

Fordham Journal of Corporate & Financial Law

The increasing penetration of digital technologies in financial markets is evidenced by promising adoption rates among users, expanding presence of fintech firms and bigtech providing techfin services, and the growing use of fintech solutions by incumbents. The increasingly popular term "fintech" captures the accelerated transformation of contemporary financial markets driven and enabled by technology, and encapsulates its multifarious potential impact on services, market structures, and business models. This Article first aims to devise and propose an analytical framework to understand the digital challenges to financial regulation based on the "layers of digital financial innovation" theory. Accordingly, digital innovation (fintech) is …

Underpricing In The Fintech Industry Compared To Non-Fintech Ipos, Kelsey A. Goss Jan 2020

Underpricing In The Fintech Industry Compared To Non-Fintech Ipos, Kelsey A. Goss

Honors Undergraduate Theses

In this thesis, I investigate the amount of underpricing in FinTech companies compared to non-FinTech companies. Both data sets contain thirty companies spanning from 1993 to 2018. Each FinTech company is matched to a non-FinTech company by year and comparatively similar revenue. Prior research explores underpricing on different industries, but it hasn’t yet explored underpricing in the FinTech segment. The variables considered in this paper are offer price, close price, shares offered, number of banks involved, fees per share, and money left on the table. I find some evidence that the average amount of underpricing in both dollars and by …

Dispositional, Place Perceptions, And Imagination: The Interactive Network Of Authenticity, Ying Chao Jan 2020

Dispositional, Place Perceptions, And Imagination: The Interactive Network Of Authenticity, Ying Chao

Electronic Theses and Dissertations, 2020-2023

The purposes of this dissertation are threefold: to define and operationalize different types of authenticity, to test the interactive network of different types of authenticity, and to test the relationships between authenticity and tourist outcome variables including transformation, place attachment, and loyalty. In psychology, authenticity is typically conceptualized to be subject-based in nature, referring to a person's state of being true to oneself across contexts and against external influences. This type of authenticity has been termed "dispositional authenticity" and operationalized in this study in dimensions of authentic living, accepting external influence, and self-alienation. In tourism, authenticity is usually considered to …

A Holistic Approach To Asses The Determinants Of Travel-Tracking Mobile Application Acceptance, Marcos De Medeiros Jan 2020

A Holistic Approach To Asses The Determinants Of Travel-Tracking Mobile Application Acceptance, Marcos De Medeiros

Electronic Theses and Dissertations, 2020-2023

This thesis investigated factors affecting travelers' intention to adopt a new type of travel-focused mobile application named travel-tracking mobile applications (TTMA). In general, TTMAs enable travelers to act as travel-posters (i.e., those who use the application to record and post/share their travel routes and travel-related information and experiences), and/or travel-takers (i.e., those who use the application to access, read, and follow the travel routes and other travel-related information and experiences posted/shared by travel-posters). By adopting an extended version of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT2) framework (Venkatesh et al., 2012), the first part of the …

The Economics Of On-Farm Rice Drying In Arkansas, Clayton J. Parker, Lanier Nalley Jan 2020

The Economics Of On-Farm Rice Drying In Arkansas, Clayton J. Parker, Lanier Nalley

Discovery, The Student Journal of Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences

Globally, rice producers are faced with the temporal problem of deciding the optimal time to harvest rice. When harvested, paddy rice is typically at a harvest moisture content (HMC) between 15% and 22% and subsequently dried by the mill to a moisture content (MC) of 12.5%. Riceland Foods Inc., the largest miller of rice in the world, uses a stair-step pricing model to charge farmers to dry, which can complicate the timing of harvest as producers try to balance the tradeoff of minimizing drying costs by waiting to harvest at lower HMC vs. maintaining higher rice quality typically observed when …

The Biofiltration Ability Of Asparagus Densiflorus To Remove Sulfur Dioxide From The Indoor Atmosphere, Rhiannon De La Rosa, Mary Savin Jan 2020

The Biofiltration Ability Of Asparagus Densiflorus To Remove Sulfur Dioxide From The Indoor Atmosphere, Rhiannon De La Rosa, Mary Savin

Discovery, The Student Journal of Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences

Sulfur dioxide is an inorganic compound (IC) and air pollutant that causes health risks in humans. The buildup of sulfur dioxide (SO2) in enclosed indoor spaces is, therefore, a concern to human health, especially since the average person spends 90% of his/her time indoors. This study focused on decreasing SO2 concentration in a cost-effective and simple way—by using botanical biofiltration, or the uptake of pollutants by plants. Research in biofiltration has focused mostly on the remediation of volatile organic compounds (VOC). However, research has also shown that plant species that remediate VOC efficiently also have the potential for efficient IC …
