JOHNSON CITY (Feb. 17, 2020) – East Tennessee State University’s Department of History will host a free public talk by Holocaust survivor Sonja Dubois on Wednesday, Feb. 26, at 4 p.m. in Rogers-Stout Hall, room 118.

Born Clara van Thijin in Rotterdam, Netherlands, on Oct. 19, 1940, Dubois became a Holocaust child survivor in July 1942, when her parents were deported to Auschwitz.  She was adopted and raised by a Dutch foster family, first in the Netherlands and then in the United States, without fully being told about her biological family and true identity.

These proceedings summarize the CUNY Games Conference 6.0, where scholars shared research findings at a three-day event to promote and discuss game-based pedagogy in higher education. The Manufacturing Productivity Extension Program (MPEX) is a fully subsidized public-instigated productivity improvement program directed toward the micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) sector. While not advertised and packaged as a Kaizen initiative, it has all the elements of the Kaizen philosophy. Based on survey responses from 64 MPEX beneficiaries and 47 non-MPEX beneficiaries, the study showed that MPEX increased the number of product lines implying that Kaizen practice leads to product innovation among firms. Due to data and confounding issues, significant difference in productivity in terms of number of workers and sales per worker was not established. Firm asset …

Evaluation of distribution center location, under uncertain environment belonging to fuzzy multi-criteria group decision-making (FMCGDM) problems, is an essential element of global supply chain management. In order to take into imprecision and vagueness of decision-making, this study uses Lee’s (2005a; 2005b) extended fuzzy preference relation to evaluate the problem of distribution center location in global supply chain management. In the location evaluation problem, all evaluation ratings and criteria weights, with the exception of investment cost evaluation ratings, are given linguistic values, and then transformed into trapezoidal fuzzy numbers. The aim of this paper is to improve the service quality of Taiwan’s free trade port zone (FTPZ), which is the key facilitator for trade activities and economic growth. However, high service quality is important to satisfy FTPZ’s users, investors, and other stakeholders. This study evaluates the service quality of the FTPZ using the multilayer quality function deployment (QFD) technique. The purpose of the study is to examine the determinants that influence corporate social responsibilities disclosure. The determinants namely the firm size, firm age, earning per share, stock price, and industry type, were examined. The sample of the study is listed firms in Indonesia Stock Exchange that issued sustainability reporting. Since CSR is an interdisciplinary topic, a CSR service learning project, too, should be interdisciplinary. Accordingly, Marketing was selected to be combined with the CSR service learning project. Since careful planning and design are paramount for service learning projects, a model is shared that was implemented in three undergraduate hybrid CSR classes. Education professionals are concerned about quality of the education our youth receive. Corporations are concerned about having a prepared, skilled workforce as we face a sweeping digital transformation. Impact metrics vary, but there are clear themes about concerns of the emerging generation of workers (“will a robot take my job?”) and skills gaps. While corporate HR leans in on innovative recruiting, “upskilling” and “reskilling” initiatives, the opportunity for students is “Broadskilling” (i.e. career awareness, entrepreneurship, soft skills, adaptability, learning to learn, and befriending technology). Let’s engage in a practical discussion based on current data and share our experiences and stories.

Theories and empirical models of exchange rate regime choice have established that generally, economic considerations play a primary role in the regime choice decision and political factors play a secondary role in this policy decision. However, in frontier and transition economies, political economy factors play the more dominant role, to ensure electability. Using a sample of 49 countries in sub-Saharan Africa spanning the period 2000 to 2016 and an ordered logit regression model, we find supporting evidence that as the degree of democratization increases, there is a stronger preference for fixed exchange rates, implying that stability is more desirable than …

This report analyzes the reception of both Disney Animation studio's and Pixar studio's last ten animated films, those released from 2003-2013, through a study of their Rotten Tomatoes scores as phases of varied success (a fllm with a score above 50%) and failure (a film with a score below 50%).
