The treatment of chronic diseases consumes 86% of U.S. healthcare costs. While healthcare organizations have traditionally focused on treating the complications of chronic diseases, advances in information technology (IT) and analytics can help clinicians and patients manage and slow the progression of chronic diseases to result in higher quality of life for patients and lower healthcare costs.

We build on prior research to introduce the notion of temporal displacement of care (TDC), in which IT and analytics create healthcare value by displacing the time at which providers and patients make interventions to improve healthcare outcomes and reduce costs. We propose …

© 2019 The Authors We perform a comprehensive examination of the role of stock-level liquidity in the cross-section of frontier market stock returns. Using several popular liquidity measures and a battery of asset pricing tests, we investigate the illiquidity premium in 22 countries for the years 1991–2019. Contrary to typical relationships in developed and emerging markets, we find no evidence of illiquidity premium in frontier equities. Our findings support the hypothesis that for countries not fully integrated with the global economy, the diversification benefits offset the illiquidity, which, in turn, proves less important.

The Impact Of Investor Protection Law On Global Takeovers: Lbo Vs. Non-Lbo Transactions, Xiaping Cao, Douglas Cummings, Jeremy C. Goh, Xiaoming Wang

This paper examines the impact of investor protection laws on value creation in LBOs versus non-LBO takeovers. We find that value creation measured by takeover premium is significantly higher in countries with better investor protection. The value effect of investor protection laws is more pronounced for LBOs than non-LBO takeover transactions. Among LBOs, investor protection’s value effect is lower for club deals than others. These results suggest that institutional context and legal environment determine the extent of value creation for takeovers around the world.

This paper presents Multiple Speed Assessments as an umbrella term to encompass a variety of approaches that include multiple (e.g., 20), short (e.g., 3 min), and often integrated interpersonal simulations to elicit overt behavior in a standardized way across participants. Multiple Speed Assessments can be used to get insight into the behavioral repertoire of a target person in situations sampled from a predefined target domain and their intraindividual variability across these situations. Time-series momentum (TSM) refers to the predictability of the past 12-month return on the next one-month return, and is the focus of several recent influential studies. This paper shows, however, that asset-by-asset time-series regressions reveal little evidence of TSM, both in- and out-of-sample. While the t-statistic in a pooled regression appears large, it is not statistically reliable as it is less than the critical values of parametric and non-parametric bootstraps. From an investment perspective, the TSM strategy is profitable, but its performance is virtually the same as that of a similar strategy that is based on historical sample mean and …

Carsharing is often promoted as a potentially environmental-friendly alternative to individual car ownership. However, various carsharing programs have displayed limited success in the past. An initial field study of a new carsharing service is such a story of failure: The introduction of this new service at a medium-sized German university generated unexpectedly low adoption rates so that the service was eventually scaled down and then suspended. Quantitative field study results as well as additional qualitative focus groups reveal that missing compatibility is a key barrier to adoption. How The Show Goes On: Using The Aesthetic Experience Of Collective Performance To Adapt While Coordinating, John Paul Stephens

Coordinating in action groups consists of continuously adapting behaviors in response to fluctuating conditions, ideally with limited disruption to a group’s collective performance. Through an 18-month ethnography of how members of a community choir maintained beautiful, ongoing performance, I explored how they continuously adapted their coordinating, starting when they felt that their collective performance was fragmented or falling apart. The process model I developed shows that this aesthetic experience—the sense of fragmentation based on inputs from the bodily senses—leads to emotional triggering, meaning group members’ emotions prompt changes in their attention and behavior. This paper investigates the relationship between business strategy and cost stickiness under different ownership. Using the data from listed firms in China from 2002 to 2015, we find that first, firms with different strategies exhibit different cost behavior. The cost stickiness of choosing a differentiation strategy is higher than that of choosing a low-cost strategy. Second, management expectations will affect cost stickiness. Optimistic expectations will increase cost stickiness, while pessimistic expectations will reduce cost stickiness. Cross-docking is a logistic technique that can reduce costs occurred in a supply chain network while increasing the flow of goods, thus shortening the shipping cycle. Inside a cross-dock facility, the goods are directly transferred from incoming vehicles to outgoing vehicles without storing them in-between. Our research extends and combines this cross-docking technique with a well-known logistic problem, the vehicle routing problem (VRP), for delivering multiple products and addresses it as the VRP for multi-product cross-docking (VRP-MPCD). The purpose of this study is to understand the extent to which the hotels under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in the center of the Turkish city Kastamonu are fit for the accommodation of the disabled. The author investigated six accommodation facilities located in the center of Kastamonu by utilizing various tools for data collection, including the Survey Method, face-to-face interviews with business managers, and the Drop-off and Pick-up (DOPU) method. The main objective of the study is to determine whether consumers’ visual product aesthetic perception differs according to the level of fashion innovations and fashion leadership. The study was conducted in five counties of Mersin, and the population was 20-64-year-old consumers. The sample consisted of 420 consumers, 213 of whom were male, and 207 of whom were female. Data were obtained through surveys and were analyzed electronically. Descriptive statistics, factors, clustering, and chi-square analysis with t-test were used.
