Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF) is an autosomal recessive inherited disease, which is accompanied by recurrent attacks of fever and serositis. It can be distinguished into two types. Type 1, is associated with recurrent short episodes of inflammation and polyserositis; type 2, is characterized by the accumulation of serum amyloid A mainly in the kidney leading to amyloidosis. The etiology of this disease is due to mutations in the MEFV gene, which encodes the protein “pyrin”. The top-seeded Buccaneers defeated the seventh-seeded Wofford  Terriers 72-58 in Monday’s Southern Conference Championship at the Harrah’s Cherokee Center Asheville. The Bucs became the fourth team in the 100-year history of the SoCon to reach the 30-win mark after improving to 30-4 on the season. The Blue and Gold join Wofford (30-5, 2018-19), North Carolina (30-5, 1945-46) and North Carolina State (30-7, 1950-51) as the only teams to accomplish the feat. In addition, the Bucs’ eight SoCon tournament championships are now tied with North Carolina for the fourth-most in league history.

Nursing and Health Professions Faculty Research and Publications

This paper provides a systematic and bibliometric review of 80 research articles on corruption in healthcare published in peer-reviewed journals between 2006 and 2017. Findings suggest that the number of studies has increased over time with a focus on low- and middle-income countries; academic researchers have published papers in a large variety of journals and have investigated different types of corruption with various methodologies. The interest is especially focused on low- and middle-income countries where corrupt behaviors are more common. The paper suggests future research directions to a dynamic research community to facilitate anticorruption actions by public authorities.

The current rating systems for unpaved roads lack stability and reliability and, therefore, provide little benefit as project- or network-level metrics. Since many of these systems are derived from paved-road assessment systems, they focus heavily on surface distresses rather than road width, drainage, and other features. This session presents the Inventory-Based Rating System as a stable and implementable method of condition assessment for unpaved roads, without the focus on surface distresses.

This dissertation contains two essays that shed new light on the disposition effect – that is, the tendency for investors to be especially eager to realize gains over losses. The first essay combines county-level natural disaster data with individual investor transactions to document an increased disposition effect for investors impacted by a natural disaster. This effect is increasing in disaster severity and decreasing in the length of time following the event, suggesting that extreme natural disasters can significantly influence investor behavior, especially in the short term. These findings are not explained by liquidity needs, tax incentives, or informed trading. The …
