Framing theory served as a framework for the analysis of the data. Findings of this study show that the right-wing media used negative frames …

Callon Petroleum's Bid For Carrizo Oil, Woodrow D. Richardson, John Marsh

Business Faculty Research

Since the fall of the price of oil in 2015, there had been significant consolidation among unconventional oil and gas producers in Texas, so initially few were shocked when in July of 2019 directors of Callon Petroleum and Carrizo Oil & Gas announced agreement on a $3.2 billion merger. However, 9.5% of Callon Petroleum was owned by Paulson & Co., a Wall Street hedge fund that strongly disagreed with the deal. Directors had cited numerous advantages, like administrative consolidation, but the hedge fund had alleged the benefits were constructed to justify management bonuses and buy-outs. Furthermore, Paulson & Co. asserted …

Fiduciary Blind Spot: The Failure Of Institutional Investors To Prevent The Illegitimate Use Of Working Americans' Savings For Corporate Political Spending, Leo E. Strine Jr.

All Faculty Scholarship

For decades, American workers have been subjected to increasing pressure to become forced capitalists, in the sense that to provide for retirement for themselves, and to pay for college for their children, they must turn part of their income every month over to mutual funds who participate in 401(k) and 529 programs. These “Worker Investors” save for the long term, often hold portfolios that are a proxy for the entire economy, and depend on the economy’s ability to generate good jobs and sustainable growth in order for them to be able to have economic security. In recent years, there has …

Beneficiary Foci Types And Performance Appeals In Green Advertising, Dooyoung Choi, Ha Kyung Lee

STEMPS Faculty Publications

In green advertising, the message focus is often associated with one of two benefits: the self-benefit focus and the other-benefit focus. However, determining which of the two benefit foci is more effective in generating positive consumer responses is still debatable. To explain the complexity of the mixed findings, we have explored advertising appeals that influence the perception of the environmental performance of the product, or green performance perception. Specifically, we have examined the self- and other-benefit types with three performance-based appeals (before, after, and before–after appeals) in relation to perceived green performance and brand attitudes. A 2 × 3 ANOVA …

A Look At Vision: Perspectives Throughout The Organizational Hierarchy Of The Christian University Context, William Kyle Brantley Jan 2020

A Look At Vision: Perspectives Throughout The Organizational Hierarchy Of The Christian University Context, William Kyle Brantley

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Research supports vision as a central tenet to leadership. Just as important as the content of vision is how it is communicated. However, once a vision is cast, far less is known about how it is communicated throughout the organization and how it influences members throughout the organizational hierarchy. For faith-based organizations like Christian colleges and universities, vision is particularly important as it serves to steer the institution toward a greater realization of its faith-based identity. This study contributes to the empirical research on vision, its communication, and its effect, as both the nature and impact of vision communication within …
